2006 CLK 200k timing chain skipped a few teeth
Mercedes CLK 200k, 2006, engine M271.940
I installed a second hand engine and I had low compression on all cylinders (about 50 PSI). Computer testing indicate "left cam sensor wrong reading" I replaced it and still no compression.
I dismantled camshaft cover and I found timing chain skipped (one tooth on the left and about three on the right camshaft). The mechanic is trying to resettle the chain by removing the tensioners....Would it be OK? Is this a standard procedure?

That chain is no good!
If the chain breaks, the engine is 100% junk!
Also, if the chain has jumped teeth, you must look at the gear teeth on the cams and the crank. The gears for the cams are $$$$ - iirc, more than the cost of a used M271. The cost of the crank gear isn't bad, but it requires a lot of work.
Get the IWIS chain (cheaper than the MB and very likely exactly the same as the one that IWIS supplies to MB) and a real chain remover/installer (~$90 USD - ebay).
Oh damn, you're on Pluto. Sorry, you're screwed. No ebay deliveries to Pluto. Also, without an atmosphere (and oxygen), your M271 gas engine won't even work.
Update your Profile.
Good Luck!
