Radio code
I am adding an amp tomorrow and I just called the dealership to ask about the radio code and I was told that the radio would have to be pulled and MB would have to be called to obtain the code. They had noithing on file that had the code. This seems like alot of work to install an amp and a sub. I have serched and can't really find a definitive answer, though some say that the C coupe does not use a code and some say it does. Is there any "grace" period when disconnecting the battery? I mean if it is just un-hooked for a few minutes will everything still reset? I have an '02 C230 and any help will be appreciated.
1) Your stealer is full of it because all they would have to do is to run a VMI on your VIN and it lists it.
2) It shouldn't be necessary because you're hooked up through the fiber optics network.

Yes, you must go through a process if you disconnect the battery but surprisingly it has nothing to do with the radio. When you reconnect your battery the windows and sunroof will not autoclose and you will get a bap/esp warning on your dash display. The process is in your owners manual. You have to open/close your windows/sunroof and hold the button closed for a few seconds. Then turn you steering wheel lock to lock until the message dissapears, usually once does the trick.
On the cassette radio if you change something like add/remove a CD changer it will say PROD after 2 minutes of play, this will go away once you start driving the car, you may have to turn the radio off and back on a few times until it stops. Doesn't happen on the Audio 10 CD radio, only the cassette radio.

Well, all went well with the amp and sub install and the only issues was the auto-down windows. No radio code, no ESP reset, and no sun-roof reset. All is well and I have much better bass now.
