SAM unit replacement question
I made the mistake of changing out my battery for a new one and this occurred. After reading several forums, almost every one is saying that the SAM unit on the rear passenger side needs to be replaced.
Can I just buy a new one from eBay or an online parts store and easily swap it out for the defective one? Or do I have to send my original defaulted one to have it reprogrammed? I have an '01 C240 with 85K miles
There have been reports of swapping being successful when getting the same options.
i.e. Your donor needs to be the same part number and have the same options/packages you have. In your particular case - rear roller blind.
Ask the seller for VIN if possible from donor for you to cross reference.
Good luck.
These should be the fitting numbers, from old to newer, but no warranty.

If you wait 5 minutes, not touching the car before changing the battery, you should have no problems. The can bus devices must go into sleep before disconnecting the battery, so open hood, wait 5 minutes not touching anything and disconnect.

Wow thank you so much for this info!! I will keep this in mind and make sure to ask the seller for VIN if I decide to buy a separate unit from a different Benz (with same options/packages per your reply) and swap!! again, thank you so much! I really hope I can get this figured out before driving across country!!
