coolant visit workshop

hello I have a w203 or 01 c240 and i am getting coolant visit workshop fan comes on as it should at start up.when driving car does not warmup it rose to 60degrees celcius and drops back to just above 40 and i have no heat to speak of . I am pretty sure tstat is bad but not sure why that would cause coolant visit workshop. thanks for any help

I assume you've checked the coolant reservoir for coolant level? This can also come on if your wiper fluid becomes low. These are two of the simple things it could be, there are of course other things which could lead to this.

Because the ECU has minimum temp, maximum temp and time to temp alarms. Get the thermostat replaced.

Your symptoms seem to directly point to the thermostat which stays in the open position when faulty.

I drained coolant and changed temp sensor and thermostat. Filled back up and after going for a ride the visit workshop malfunction is gone. I hope it stays that way. Thanks for everyone’s help!

I spoke to soon. Temperature is rock steady now at 87 Celsius. Coolant is full. Windshield wiper is full. Fan seems to be cycling as it should and coolant visit work shop came back on. I am at a total loss

I didnt write the code down but i checked it and it was a fan failure. I checked plug with engine running and on big cables I had continuity to ground on brown red i had 13.8 volts the small wires i had 13.8 on one and 3 volts on other wire I plugged it back into the fan and it didnt kick on.So I am assuming I have a bad fan or relay but its all one assembly
