C200 W203 2002 Coupe-- Headlight clamps to secure bulbs
Hi am in NZ & went for a WOF [Warrant of fitness]. My headlight bulbs were loose. I don't have a manual but the inspector said I needed wire clips to secure the headlight bulbs. However once home I had a play & they slot in OK. but the idea is to splay out the 2 tags left & right so they seat under the screws on the headlight base. The person who installed my right side never seated the light fitting properly. I noticed mine came loose as wasn't seated right. NO wire dogs on this car.
Am I right this just slots in & no wire dog needed to hold onto the headlight frame??
. I have enclosed 1 JPEG.

Wire dogs?
The connector shown goes into the the hole for the headlight,
and it turns to the right to clip in. It's a PIA to get it just right, get it lined up,
but with a bit of trial and error you should get it. Use a flash light and mirror to get a look inside the housing to
get a handle on the orientation of how it clips in.

Great thank you and I did exactly as you said & yes solved the problem. The VTNZ inspector also had the bulb upside down why the light shined too high? & then told me I needed wire dogs. So can now tell him otherwise as realigned the headlights & all good? I also rang our MB dealer & they confirmed no wire dogs. Am happy with the car as its solid & in NZ Mercs are ideally priced. I also need a bottom front ball joint & was quoted 458 UK pound [MB Dealer] = $855NZ. Repco in NZ sell genuine for $202NZ & rear brake hoses are around $67 each. If I get to like it more I may buy another C200 for parts. I feel safe on our kiwi roads. All the best to you for your help.

Hi can you tell me when changing a headlight on my C200 can I just disconnect the electrical loam & put
on the replacement headlight without unplugging the battery? Turned out all good easy replacement as I broke the adjuster.

I've had to replace 2 bulbs in my headlights and I also swapped the stock halogens for a set of bixenon/HID headlamps. I did not disconnect the battery for any of these jobs and didn't have any issues. I think that making sure the headlights are off is all that as needed - although maybe I was lucky. I did need to have my mechanic use his STAR diagnostic system to change the settings in the system so the bixeons would not cause an error.
