2003 Option List

Looks like the only option that will be added to the C-Class (W203) option list for the model year 2003 is Parktronic.

Keyless Go, Distronic, Tire Pressure Monitoring and the Electronic Trunk closer didn't make it into production for the 2003 model year I guess.

Unhappy

It will make me very sad, as I'm extremely lazy, and was looking forward to such options.

If you want that stuff (auto trunk closer, etc), then Mercedes wants you to buy the more expensive E-Class or S-Class cars.

Any new options for the 2003 C-Coupe? Different colors? Xenon HID's? Stock in-dash CD player?

keyless go would have been nice. (i think hids are definitely going to be optional for the coupe, as well as the in-dash cd player and different colors)

tommy, this is just my opinion, but I feel this comment is not very PC. I don't believe you would get away with this remark at your workplace, would you?

I agree she seems to be gunning for you for some reason, but I don't think you need to trot out this kind of frat humor just to have fun. It's not your most original, and it will only illicit the response you expect.

I could have PM'd you with this, but I think it's important for both of you to calm it down, which I don't mind writing publicly.

Third man in a hockey fight gets game misconduct... I'm heading for the "sin bin" as I write this.

I would not be terribly surprised if there are essentially no signficant changes. People have dreams that all the little qwerks will be resolved for 2003. Don't hold your breathe.

options

Although I would not necessarily want to get one, the SEQUENTRONIC 6 speed sequential gearbox they offer in Europe on the Coupé and wagon would be interesting to try out.

Funny how they don't offer that over here; I'm sure it is a profitable option for M-B.

They circular holes in the bumber inserts are for the parktronic. Distonic uses some kind of radar-transmitter hidden behind the grille, if I'm remember correctly.

I agree it's kinda strange that they don't offer it in US, but what I've heard, and read about it, you can live without it... None of the car mags I've read, who tested the sequentronic, have liked it. I can't do any judjements myself, 'cuase I didn't try it out.

This weekend, I think I will go to my dealer and take a test-drive in a car equipped with sequentronic, then I will judge. I'll post my experiences then.

If SEQUENTRONIC=Clutchless Manual, then ive had that kind of tranny in my previous A Class. Its kinda fancy......really like a manual with an invisible left foot doing the clutch work for you. (people in my country get confused when they see my 5 speed manual shifter with only two pedals!!!) Its a good compromise between auto and manual, however, if your a fast "manual shifter" then, i would not recommend it. You cant downshift as fast as you can on a real manual, cz you might "beat" the "invisible left foot" and cause damage to the car.

Sequentronic is more for the relaxed driver IMO. Maybe thats y its more common on small city cars...........

It is interesting to me that the MB, with their "safety" reputation (well deserved and an industry standard), they have not been more active in the proliferation of the only truely usefull feature on that list... tire pressure monitoring.

parktronic is for lazy people, distronic is same (and it scares me, I'll admit that), electric trunk close? thats an old cadillac trick (makes ya want to hork just thinking about it).

If MB wants to differentiate their offerings and realy show their edge in tech. they need to introduce the sequentronic on the C320 and C230... that will be an enormous coup. especially if they can get it to market before SMGIII on the 330Ci... the tire-pressure monitoring is something that I would never pay extra for on my car, but i would if it were my wife's car. That option would likely pay for itself over the life of the car in decreased tire wear.

That's hilarious, Rick.

Funny you should chime in... I was actually thinking of you and the Dr. Iggy show as I was trying to decide whether to "galavant" or not.

Glad you put me in the box with Beth, though. Too much "outgassing " from that other penalty box for me... MsMB-BOB will understand...

On topic, which frequency does Distronic use? One of the current law enforcement radar bands (X, K, Ka)? I hope not, of course. Just thinking of all the false alarms from my radar detector.

Rick well done! I will aways appreciate Bob's company anytime, but can't you put me in the box with Tommy, you know making up can be fun.

Actually, I think parktronic serves a useful purpose, not just for lazy people. How many cars do you know of these days where you can actually see the back edge of the trunk when you back up. This helps to know when to stop w/o touching the other car's bumper.

As for the trunk closer, Cadillac has auto "pull down" which only takes the trunk down the last inch or so into the latch mechanism. I believe the M-B auto trunk closer actually pulls the trunk down from the full open position and closes and latches it. Hey, some S-Classes have automatic door closers too! Hork away!

I'd forgotten all about this (or have tried to supress it ). Hey, whatever happened to Rex? I don't recall him ever posting once the format changed. I almost miss the pictures of his big white truck.
