Still having heater problems

I'm having big time trouble bleeding my system and trying to flush the matrix. I drained then flushed with garden hose. The method I used disconected the T part of lower hose. (See photo) Pushed garden hose into the pipe leading to the heater matrix put expansion tank tap back on and closed radiator drain valve. Then turned garden tap on till water flowing freely. Then wrapped a few winds of duct tape on the garden hose and inserted into the plastic connector of lower hose to flush opposite direction till water flowing out. Now here comes the strange bit. Heater now working but still not the best. As it's getting cold and frosty I drained the radiator by use of the drain plug then filled with antifreeze leaving cap off till engine got up to temperature. The ruddy heater stopped working again. I tried everything, car on hill cap off, over sized funnel (again a few wraps of duct tape for a good seal.) in expansion tank to raise the level to help it burb. Nothing. Disconected the hose again and filled as per flushing above. Now working again. To get the antifreeze in again I will have to buy more cocentrate. Drain and fill at the same time to avoide another airlock. Or is there a better way? PS there is no heater pump.
