I was driving out of town, the car jerked then the abs light came on, the digital and needle speedometer wouldn't move but the car was still driving. Got to my spot..came back out and car would not start...not battery....I had just picked it up that morning from my mechanic who said everything looked great on the car I just needed new belts. Had it towed, guy loaded it when I was there .met him at the repair shop, he couldn't not get it into neutral for a long time... Shop says I need a new drive shaft( where it goes to drive, reverse etc) how can that make my car do what I wrote above and not start? Having to get it back home for my mechanic to look at and he isnt helping much....any thoughts please

How is a drive shaft going to solve this problem?
Sounds either like water getting into things..I've had serious problems after big rain storms on a
couple of occasions, wouldn't start, until it dried out, eventually everything dried out and it fixed itself...mostly...
last time my instrument panel was dead, but I took it out
to a speedo shop in Palo Alto and they plugged it in, read the memory,
and when I got home it miraculously fixed itself.
2nd thing could be oil either getting in the engine harness from the
cam magnets, and then to the ECU, and/or the harness to the
transmission, orings leak, and gets into the transmission computer under the
right side floorboard, but that wouldn't prevent the car from starting.
