Miss fire/check engine light
I took the car to one of our local Mecedes shops, they read the codes which said it was miss firing on cylinder 3. Ok after 140k maybe the coils need replacing. I bought OEM replacements coils for all 4 plus new spark plugs and replaced them. Ran fine for a few weeks then it started back up again.
I dropped it off at another Mercedes only shop who has all ex-dealer employees. They say it is the valve guilds that are bad. The valve rotates and will not close so the computer throws a code. The shops says it is a $5000 replacement for the head with a rebuilt.
Took the car to another shop (#3) where they only find compression drops to 90psi during missfire on the one cylinder.
Both shops say her car is one of the top 5 cleanest cars they have ever seen.
The car has always lived in California. Always lived in the garage. Never seen snow.
My wife loves the car yet looking at the value plus not 100% sure replacing the head will solve it.
Any help would be wonderful.
Thanks
T
