A little information about the Extended Warranty program . . .

I called MBUSA to find out about the extended warranty. As mentioned previously, they will only offer the extended warranty up to 3 years beyond the built in coverage (up to 100K miles). The old extended warranties included a Basic and Premium package. The basic covered the powertrain while the premium covered most everything. The new plans will only be premium types. So, consider that in the new pricing as well. Do not compare a basic extended warranty with the new extended warranties that are only the premium versions.

In addition, none of the extended plans cover scheduled maintanence.

So, a couple grand spent today for years 5 through 7 may not make that much financial sense. I will check a little closer to the one year point of my ownership before deciding. No reason whatsoever for me to jump right now to try to save a few hundred bucks as presumably the extended warranty prices will probably be stable for twelve months following their impending increase.

Best regards,

CP

The new charges at my dealer are as follows:

1 year $1580
2 years $1990
3 years $2380

All are for the current extended warranty premium package.

Best regards,

CP

Since there are dealers currently offering discounts on the extended warranties, I would suspect that plicy will continue. I am going to wait as well.

The main thing is that they will no longer be offering the 4 year plan; so if you want that you have to act now. I have had my car for almost one year now, and new problems pop up contininously. Basically, since I got it every 2-3 weeks a new problem has occured. By checking the boards, I feel that my car definitely has more problems than average (I even looked if I could use the lemon law, but it doesn't really apply; the problems are not safety related). Although my car is not one of the Brazilian ones, the assembly quality seems low. A monday assembly maybe. So, because of that I think the extended warranty makes sense. If my car had been problem free I would probably not have done it.

ahost, that seems a little extreme. So, what you're saying is that you have had between 17 and 26 separate problems since you bought it? I would've screamed bloody murder. But, they'll all be covered under warranty. And if you go by the law of averages, your years 2-7 of ownership should be problem-free!

Maybe someone's trying to get back at your sterotyping of Brazilian factories vs. the German ones. For example, the same German factories have been installing window regulators in GTIs for years, and they still can't get them right.

my car is problem free.... only issues: got a paint chip from a gravel truck i passed at 96 mph yesterday, and got a big scratch on my 60c from dropping it while slightly intoxicated.
