WTF is up with my star emblem????
OK, after looking in the hood of my car, I have ascertained that the stupid Star thing is purely cosmetic. The car is unmistakeably an Mercedes, so the star in unnecessary. I assume also that since it increased the aerodynamic profile, it hurts both my mileage and performance. Moreover, since it is taller because of the stupid star, I am sure that has a higher observable radar profile, resulting in a more substantial radar signature. Not good since I speed a lot and need all the help I can get.
Is there any way to hammer it flat or remove and not damage the finish? How have any of you been able to get rid of your star, I have opened the hood and noticed that its kinda mounted weird on some spring like device, how have all you people been able to remove yours?

It removes sooooo easily, if you look into the hole under the hood, you will see the "legs" just use any decent plier and gently twist the emblem and it will loosen up itself. And pop out thru the top (remember that, so you don't scratch your hood)

yes the star moves easily and can be replaced with a flat hood badge, but is supposed to move easily because if it were stuck in place it could break off thru the car wash or an impact with a solid object. the break away feature keeps it from snapping off. yes the car is a mercedes but the star is its marque. the star is more than an emblem it represents its history as does the laurel wreath. keep in mind on the older models the star was on the radiator cap.

just me, but if i had a sedan id keep the upright star. looks classy! 
i had an upright on my 300CD and 300D, and i like looking out over the hood and seeing the three-pointed star in front!
