proper launch

Guys, i will be going to atco raceway to run my stock c230 for my "before" run. i am by all means not a professional driver but have been off only by a tenth/second of magazine times in my past cars. I only have 1200 miles experience in this car so far, so i could use your help. What should i do for esp, switch it off, or disable completly? What is the proper way to launch this car,it is my first car with more torque than hp? It seems to me to just bounce the gears off of the rev limiter quickly to get the best shifts, as the c7 tires can chirp perfectly, if i am wrong let me know. What are your times if you have ran your car, this car feels like it should do mid to low 15s if driven corectly

Renncpe mentioned that he got his best runs starting in 2nd gear with ABS turned off (search the forum for how to do this) and slipping the clutch to get a decent burn out. He was able to get 0-60 times in the mid sixes with his mods.

Renncpe is running a 3.67:1 rear gear, not the stock gear. Keep in mind that totally disabling ESP will result in the car having an open differential. And that brings up the question, is there a limited slip differential available in the aftermarket?

if you are looking for a traction control device for the rear end, check on a quaife. it is a torque sensing differential that is used in many many road racing applications. there is a company in texas that sells them called taylor race engineering i didn't see anything for the mercedes, but i am sure they are adding products all the time.

The question to figure out is if the shift from 1st to 2nd delays the 0-60 time enough to make starting in 2nd worth while? Using 2nd great and feathering the clutch on launch at a decent point in the torque curve and not letting that drop might work.

slip the clutch....dont really concentrate on your 0-60 ft times at first...get it rollin and get on it. then once you get use to the shifting on the strip....go for better 0-60. I would invest in some 16's (even some 15's) with drag radials on it...and that will give you some better times.

I put a Quaife in my '94 Jetta. A beautiful, bulletproof design! When you did get wheelspin, it was very predictable and progressive, and you could easily modulate traction with the gas pedal.
