19s today

I just put some 19's on my c230k today and here is my immediate impression...

Looks: bling bling bad ***
ride: same as my C7
E=Mc2: Due to the larger unsprung wheel mas (greater weight than C7 package) I noticed a decrease in power / torque. Once up to speed things are fine..
Height: I noticed the ride is slightly higher, I guess due to a larger rim lifting me away from the road further.
wheel tuck: rear is perfect with my spring set. Im cutting a coil off the front, PERIOD (not happy with front).

The image in my sig, once hosted has a doctored front end, (my end result after cutting coil).

If you have nice roads in the city and doesnt mind the heavy weight of the LM5, then get the 19's. However, does your car have the big brakes in front, if so, you will need spacers for the LM5s. 19's will always LOOK much BETTER than 18's.

But if the roads are bad in your area, for practicality reason, I would suggest you to get the 18's. SSR GT3 is a much lighter wheel than the LM5. However, the quality/build of the LM5 should be a tad better than the SSR.

Think long and hard. Are you going to regret not getting 19's later? If you think you might, then go for 19's. Otherwise you'll be kicking yourself in a few months.

No flame but that is most likely the results of putting on the wrong size tires. Increasing the wheel size will necessitate a correct conversion of the tire in order to avoid speedo error. Therefore if done correctly there will be no difference in ride heights since the overall tire/wheel diameter is maintained.

You're cutting your springs???? That is like so I can't afford no suspension Honda ghetto mod. Why would you do that? You're going to have that nice bouncy Honda Civic ride I see so much on the streets after they cut their springs.

No offense, but that's so cheap, and not to mention will cause you to have a shock failure sooner than later. Do it right and get some coilovers

well..

Well here is the way I look at it.
I paid for the springs, they are in and Im not happy with the fronts. Some people say its just fine after cuttina a half or full coil.. I have never had it done..

So why not try it? If it works and rides fine after testing then cool, if not Im gonna buy coil overs. May as well try first... At least try to save some cash, Im not Bill Gates or I would gave purchased a Bugatti or something...

OK, I guess it's worth a try. From what I understand it can really screw up your ride. I don't know if you notice how bouncy some of the Hondas are when they go down the road, but I guess it's possible they may have really cut them low.

Your new springs may settle a little, so you might want to give it a couple months before doing anything.

The light wieght SSR's are a no-brainer. They will look good, and increase the fun factor. They may be larger, but the wiegh the same as the C7s. The GT7's are 3.5 lbs lighter than C7s and the Competions are 7.5 lbs lighter than C7s.

'not to flame' but I had cut half a coil on my car and have had it that way for a year, it does NOT bounce like a Honda Civic. Yeah I coulda bought CO's but I didnt just because I like how my Koni's match up with my Brembos. Do what you want either just be cheap and cut (you wont die)or spent the dough on some CO's you have your CHOICE.

Thanks

Thats what I thought.. I have seen many threads and pics of ppl that cut the springs and our MERCEDES modulate and ride fine. Hell Im willing to cut half a coil and put some nice Konis on there, it will be far less than those over priced kits by H&R.

GO with 19's......I have 19's and not regretting it a day since.... I live in boston so the roads here are horrible. Depends on what tire you get also....The cabin noise will be a bit louder... i haven't had any problems with my 19's except a bent rim because i hit a pot hole going 75 on the high way.....any size rim will bend at that rate of speed.... in any case, i ride 19's 265 in the rear and 235 in front....looks mean as hell looking from the rear, staggered, x9.5 rear and x8.5 front......u will have to lower it in the front because there is a noticable gap. but the rears u can leave alone because they are good in terms of ride height....i didn't see any rise in the car as I was also concerned about that issue....i am really happy with the 19's...you will buy 18's and see someone roll down the street with 19's and totally wish u got 19's... it always happens...

Go with 18"...once you hit 19" and above it looks like you took a *** tire off a 10 speed Schwinn and put it on your car. Bigger don't mean better.

19's

19's are better as the tire sidewall is basically the same size of the ones on my 17's see the pic below... and my sig for specifics. nice ride and i hear treads when applying brakes only. overall the tires are quiter than those damn michelin sports that come on my C7 package and these 555's BITE like a mother!!

I do roll in confidence too as I KNOW i have the biggest shoes that can fit on my ride!!!

Yes there is a considerable price jump in tires between 18's and 19's !!! 265's are expensive as hell!!! I have 8.5 all the way around and the prices were reasonable!! :p

265's are indeed expensive but when driving your car, do you have any regrets? hell no!

id rather have my 19s and 265s on my car instead of having 18s and whatever tire size thinking "dang i shoulda bought those 19s!"

If that statement is true then 1 of 2 cases apply:
1) your 17s were sized wrong OR
2) your 19s are sized wrong

Because one or the other will give you a speedo error since the 19s should have 1" less sidewall than the 17s and to the std 16 the difference should be 0.5" or 1.5". I let you do the math.
