Coolant Mixing with Oil

Recently I noted that my car coolant level to be low. I topped up the coolant and after two days message popped up check coolant level and again the level had gone down. I called and visited a garage and after checking found that oil was milky the guy suggested we replace the oil cooler and I bought new one for replacement. Got the car and after a day message pops up again coolant check level again was low problem still persist. Now the garage says I have to replace the CHG and some seals inside the engine. Ever since this problem surfaced my temperature for the car is normal and pulling is also normal. I have also not experienced any misfiring it's just the way it was problem is the mixing of coolant and oil. The other only problem I have noticed the exhaust soot is wet. My engine is M271 i need other opinion before I break the engine.

Yes. Sounds like a cylinder head gasket. Maybe remove the spark plugs and check to see if signs of head gasket failure.

If the oil is milky then wouldn't you need rod and main bearings too? Did you drain the oil to check for yourself?

What year and engine? Two common things for the c230 compressor (1.8l m271 engine) are 1) the radiator contaminating the transmission fluid - the tranny fluid cooler is integrated into the radiator; and 2) the plastic coolant fittings around the cylinder head - above the exhaust manifold, between the firewall and back of the cylinder head, and fitting to the thermostat.

Ways to check if it's the head gasket 1) look at the spark plugs - they can look 'steam cleaned' from the water vapor; 2) after sitting overnight or longer, pull the plugs to look for coolant and/or have someone turn over while looking at the spark plug holes to see if coolant comes out, 3) test the coolant for exhaust gases (rent a kit from Autozone or the like, 4) water in the engine oil.

You can also pressure test the coolant system to see try to find where the coolant is going.
