Yes. Lock the car from inside (power lock switch). Exit the vehicle through the driver's side door. Physically lock the driver's door keyhole using the metal key inside the fob.

Thank you! If I understand you correctly, you still have to lock the car with either the fob or the metal key. I was hoping to lock and go but I guess that's not possible.

I just got in my car, pressed the power lock button on the dash, opened the drivers door and all doors unlocked. So I just push lock on the fob. I've never had a car you couldn't lock inside and shut the door and it stays shut. Hmmm
Basically I'm standing outside car fumbling with the fob to find the right button to lock the car.

Yes.
You may be fumbling with your keys.
But.
You have your keys.
The intelligent engineers at MB have worked thru basic human interaction that people could (and will/do) lock their keys in their cars. The w203 is smart enough to do all it can to ensure you’re not out in the rain staring at dry keys inside.
Please note: you can set your w203 to lock globally or locally and it should also be programable to key dependence. Meaning; my key locks and unlocks driver’s door only, or local locking. My wife’s key is set to global locking and operates all locks for family ease.
They’ve done this for generations; as my w123 would pop up the lock upon closure automatically if I pressed the plunger down, door open and shut it. Forcing me to use the metal key (only option) to consciously lock the vehicle from the outside, again, holding my key.

Great info! Thanks so much!
Until I learn the function position by memory on the fob, I've been tracing the lock pad on the fob in silver ink 😊
