MB's have always been relatively unreliable so I don't understand what the excitement is all about. As long as they provide me with nice loaners and free car washes it doesn't matter to me how unreliable they are. Will MB fix this, heck no, people expect their MB's to be that way as they have for generation after generation.

C320 Coupe
other people might have experienced faulty cars, but from my family's experience with mercedes, it hasn't been bad at all.

my mom's '95 c280 has about 130,000 miles now and only goes in for service when necessary. i can think of only twice where the "check engine" light came on, and once it was just a faulty sensor, the second time it was more serious and a part had to be replaced (can't remember now). she loves that car to death though.

my '03 c320 coupe has a clean track record so far after a year and 13,000 miles. only thing that broke was my passenger seatbelt holder thing, and it was my fault because it got stuck on the seat when i was pushing the seat back down.

but hopefully MB can iron out any kinks in their quality that other people are experiencing, esp. so these magazines can put a higher impression of MB in their magazines, rather than this exaggerated idea of MB products as faulty and problem-ridden.

unreliable according to who? They certainly give the impression that they are reliable. longterm tests from magazines don't tend to turn up many issues.
in my case my 2002 C230 was a new model, data on reliability for it was not really available.

if i had know that my car would be in the shop this much, i would NEVER have bought it. yeah, my dealer fixes everything. yippee. how many defective parts is too many?

no matter what you buy, someone will complain about it.

2004.5 C 230
6,000+ Miles & no problems with my Komprosser! It does have a few paint chips, I heard the '05 are better in that area.

"A Mercedes-Benz product"
I have a 2002 C-230k with almost 60,000 miles. Other then the problem I have now with the rear dif., The car is great!!! On the other hand my father has a 2003 Infiniti G35, and that is what I would call a seriously problematic car. even my aunts Lexus was taken to the dealer for rust on a 2004 RX 330!

Besides surveys done by JD Power and Consumer Reports, my own experience. I can tell you that the current MB's are only bad in comparison to American and most Japanese brands, compared to MB's of 10-20 years ago the current breed is much more reliable. For example, my first MB in 1983, an '84 W201 was in the shop way more than my '02 W203 and eventually taken back under the lemon law. My parents weren't so lucky, their's burst into flames while driving it on a San Diego freeway. It's just tough when people start trying to compare an MB to Chevy or Ford which from my experience are way more reliable. Some say the expectation on MB is higher because of the price, that's BS, I've owned Chevy's that were more expensive than my MB and why is Lexus always on top, don't their owners have high expectations, probably higher than MB because of their reputation.
