What is the clip inside the hatch?

What is the clip inside the hatch?
What is the gray plastic "clip" located directly in the center of the inner part of the hatch? I noticed it when I opened the hatch to dry the bumper after I washed it. It looks like you could put something in there about the size of a pencil or a tire gauge.

If you are talking about the clip on the under side of the parcel shelf, it is a clip to hold up the spare tire access hatch. Under the spare tire access hatch is a handle that unfolds and clips on to that clip, to hold it up while you take the tire and air compressor, etc. out of the spare tire well.
When I heard that (and saw it demonstrated), I was truly amazed at the level of consideration that Mercedes-Benz has taken. This feature makes total sense, along with the plastic bag to hold the tire after you are done changing it. I wonder if other manufacturers do this kind of thing?
Keep the tire gauge in the glove compartment! There is a clip there for that.

the compressor is under the spare tire. its a blue box and there are some cords that plug in one end of the compressor and the other end goes to lighter. Once you see it you will understand

The compressor-box has a little door, when you open it you gain access to the electrical wire and the air hose.

To see the cables you have to open a little door on the side of the blue box. To open the door you have to pull up the two flaps on the side that keep it locked.
Once you do this cables will pop out. There is even a pressure gauge on it, it's quite good (I used it a few times).
