Dead battery story
So I called roadside assistance a tow truck came in and gave me a boost.
The car started right up, in its usual tractor-like-sounding fashion.
The tow truck driver looked puzzled for a minute, then he made a circle with his fingers and said:
"Maaaan, you must have a hole big like this in your exaust somewhere
"
While I explained that it's normal the 40 or so seconds passed and the engine sound became normal. It was pretty funny
i gotta admit that the crappy noise can be downright embarassing since it seems to do it the loudest when there are people ...specially hotties around.. i do admit though it's a great conversation starter....
LOL...
i know what u mean i was embaresed to when i first showed my car to my friends and even raced one of them he said DUDE your car sounds worse than a crappy civic. i tried to explain it to him but he did not belive me.
The question is, how does your wife make up your embarrassment to you?
I'm trying to determine if this is normal because I don't want to take a long trip to the dealer just to find out "they all sound that way". I might just wait until service "A" to bring it up. It may the purge valve problem but I'm not sure exactly what that problem sounds like.
Any other "beetle-coupes" out there?
Help me here. My car sounds like a old VW bug even after warmup. In other words- that exhaust leak "tick" sound is still present under acceleration. It sounds fine at idle. I didn't notice until the nice weather came and I opened the windows/roof and went for a drive.

So if your ticking noice is rev-dependent, my guess is that it isn't the purge valve.

From your description it sounds like the purge valve is NOT the culprit. It's definitely rev dependant.
I tried recording the sound with my digital camera (which has a built-in mic.) and post the clip here, but it didn't reproduce when I played it back on my PC.
I'm going to assume the sound is normal and wait for another excuse to have it check out at the dealer.
There is no screwdriver tapping on the "torpedo-wall" sound. Yes, the correct translation should be fire-wall, but torpedo-wall sounds much more interesting.

i used to wait until that exhaust leak sound sort of went away before driving, but that other thread pretty much convinced me that it was not necessary.i used to have a nissan 240sx and it had some sort of screwed on joining thing in the exhaust system; it would get loose every once in a while, and i had to reach into the engine towards the bottom and screw it back on. (i paid the mechanic $50 for that piece of info)
the problem is that sometimes, i listen to music (or so-called music) and if it has some industrial sounds like pinging, i turn off the music right away b/c i suspect some strange noise emanating from the engines...
but, of course, it was the music... (but my b.p. just went up a notch)voyagerdude, i take it that you don't use the auto light setting?
voyagerdude, i take it that you don't use the auto light setting?
I really like how the fog lights look :o
so I tend to turn the lights on myself, sometimes I forget to do it and then it stays on auto.
I can't see my fog lights while I'm drving my car. What am I missing?
So why do you even have a nice car, huh?
...enjoy the bronco
what i would like is something like a police spot light that i can use to accuse the smokers that throw their cig butts out the window...

now pick it up!
So why do I have a nice car?
I agree, It's tough to admire the exterior of a car when your inside of it. I do see the exterior quite often when it's sitting outside my window 9 hours of the day and I do enjoy it's appearance then (even though the fogs are off). I’d rather look at my MB than the vehicle I replaced.
After that, there's the driving experience the car provides. Personally, during the 2-4 hours I spend inside the MB, I could care less about what's going on outside or what the other drivers think of my car or me. It's all about what makes me happy. I worked for it- I deserve it. It's my reward. Trophies and stock options don't go very far with me anymore.
I guess it all comes down to who your trying to impress- others or oneself. I'm sure every member here has different reasons for buying their car and what rewards they get from their purchase. Enjoy yours, and I'll enjoy mine.
Sdcaclint, maybe I should learn to unplug my keyboard on slow Fridays.

Now that's un-called for! That's like calling my wife ugly! What next? You gonna insult my mother? Christ...you guys are ruthless.
:p
Just for that, here it is...you asked for it:
:p
(just kidding)Foglights provide extra lighting at night-time, that's why I usually use them.
In addition to this functional use of fogs
, as an added bonus, I happen to enjoy they way the car looks like with them on. It makes me feel better. So I figured, perhaps other people might find it attractive as well and it will make them feel better too.Are they really only $20?
