Cup Holder

a simple question... why cant mercedes and other automakers design a cupholder that you can fit larger size cups into (like larger fast food cups) i am sick of spilling soda on my seats as the cupholders a restaurant gives you are worth sh*t. come on now

that's funny.. i don' think the car manufacturers foresaw the cup sizes getting close to the size of a litre bottle over here....

i believe in europe, they don't have cup sizes as big as they do in the US.... from what i can remember...

All things in moderation

Don't drink more than three beers. Don't have more than one entree and don't get the large soda. America the land of excess.

My Ford Focus ZX3 actually has large cup holder's for big size drinks.. Don't they make them in Europe??? There is the regular cup holder, then when you take that out on the bottom there is a bigger size one.

North American alimentary habits

I believe that North Americans are among the only people in the world that actually eat and drink in their cars. In some other countries, it would be considered to be boorish to do so.

Perhaps we can blame the fast food culture and the early (1950s) drive-ins for this strange behaviour

All MB cup holders are over-engineered... and you shouldn't be eating or drinking in your car anyways!

Euopeans do not eat or drink in their cars, and as a result, European cars have horrible cup holders. The American and Japanese do and as a result, their cars do have big cup holders. MBs cup holders are actually better than VW and BMWs. My Step mother did not buy a BMW because of the cup holder issue. I almost did not by a MB for the same reason.

I do not understand why the cup holder issue has not shown up in the product marketing focus groups and been addressed by the German automakers. Maybe they only do the focus groups with Germans.

My '97 C36 has NO cupholder - help!!

I'm a Starbucks junky, and need a cupholder. On my center console right behind the gearshift, there is a flip up compartment (not the large one underneath the armrest) that looks like a cupholder could be retrofitted to. Or maybe came stock on some cars.

Any ideas??

Where I am originally from, you really can not take your hands off the wheel because of the lunatic traffic and there are no auto transmissions either! so the cars have NO cup holders!!!

OK so I'm a little late to the party, but the fact is that our cup holders can actually accomodate a fairly large vessel- the Wendy's biggie cup makes it and that puppy's pretty large. If you take a minute to study the cupholder, you'll notice a lip on the far right side that limits the circumference, however you can lift the adjustable arm of the cupholder over that lip to give you some more gurth. Its kinda hard to explain so if this makes no sense, just take a few minutes to examine it and I think you'll see what I mean. I didn't reinvent the wheel or anything but I was still pretty excited of my discovery. Hope this helps, and I'll drink and drive if I want to soup ****!

Not with acholholic beverages ofcourse, and I'm just joking Accord - if you've never seen that Seinfeld than you won't get the humor, but it wasn't meant to be at all slanderous.

Why anyone would make a vehicle purchasing decision based on the kind of cupholders in the car is simply beyond me. No flames please but ya gotta think of more important issues when making a purchase.

Want plenty of nice cupholders? Buy an American car. Simple and easy. Want it to be reliable, too? Buy Japanese

Do spend an hour and a half in your car communting everyday? My step mother does while drinking starbucks. Why would that not be key buying point. Where would you put your coffee, so your assured it does not spill on you. Of course, this is the same woman when asked what type of car she drives said "white". So make of it what you will.

I'm going to have to agree with gg for once. Criteria are in the eye of the beholder. Someone's cupholders are someone else's dual-zone climate control. If you took a poll of all ccoupe owners, I'm sure that you'd get alot of different reasons for why people bought the car.

Now, about the stepmother buying coffee from evil Starbucks is another issue altogether.

Just had to hightlight this. Tommy, you're getting soft. Next thing you know you'll be admitting I'm right and you're wrong. :p

I'll ask Adam to make that one sticky.

Do you say these kind of things on purpose, just to see how immature I really am? I think that you know the answer to that one already, no?

Speaking of soft, remember that night you were over and I said: "Oh sweetheart, don't worry it happens to every guy."? Remember that? Well I LIED!
