'05 Coupe grille installed

I received and installed my new '05 grille this morning. My thanks to Steve for a great part, and thanks to Citron for pictures and direction.

'05 tails and mirror blinkers on the way to complete the package.

Very nice !!! They do make a great difference ! I love my new '05 Grill too !
The 45 minutes of Dremmeling those knobs just right was all worth it. The fun part is that now I get to go

Unfortunately my dremmel is cordless so I was at it for a couple of hours total, but all in all worth the time.

They did, thanks again. I knew what I was working with by being able to see your grille off. Thanks....

You can buy it from Steve "MBenzNL". Do a search for his posting of '05 parts.
Or you can buy it from any MB dealer if you like to pick it up yourself.

it doesn't look quite straight in the top pic. looks like the gap above the top grille bar gets smaller towards the left side (as you look at the car).

is it just the pic?

I just looked again, and it looks pretty straight to me. It is very hard to get it perfect with all the cutting that was necessary. The pic is a little deceiving I think, as it was really sunny that day and the left side might look a little distorted due to that. I have not changed it since the pic and in the garage it looks pretty darn good.

One more thing on this install. One problem is the side pegs that are smaller than the original grilles. If you go to Home Depot and get a piece of dowell rod and make your self a female extension that fits to the end of the new grille it will give you the length and circumfrence to fit right into the compression fitting on the body. It should hold for you pretty well. You can use hot glue or something to attach the dowell to the grille and it will snap right in place. Just remember to cut it long and trim down.

Same here. Molding tape worked perfectly, and the fit is nice & snug.

I don't think that I was looking at the right tape at the auto store that you guys are speaking of. Anyway, all of our methods should work and nobody should have trouble installing an '05 grille from this point on. This has been a great little project and learning experience for me.
