C200 W203 HESITATION AND ENGINE SHAKE WHEN WARM

Hello, hope im in the right place. 2003 C200 AUTO. 113k on the clock. I have had for about 6 months, car was fine apart from electrical gauges freezing momentarily now n then. Recently i have had choppy acceleration like if there was a hole in the exhaust, and engine shake, but it only does this after about 20mins of driving when the temperature warms up, if i turn engine off and wait till it cools down then i start up again the car is back to normal again... Until it warms up again then i have the same issue. There is no engine management light or malfunction listed. I recently used all off wynnes cleaning products as the car was shaking and cutting out when i pressed the breaks or accelerated from stand still, i should have mentioned this first but since i used wynnes it no longer does that but it has this problem instead. Please let me know if im in the wrong place. Thanks

Hmmm, wonder if you have a crankshaft position sensor (CPS) issue.

A failing cps often only acts up when the car is warm. Often no codes either. There are quite a few threads on the site about cps issues—run a search and see if the diagnosis matches your problem.

Thanks for the reply, i have looked at a few of those threads but am not sure whether thats the issue. The car was initially cutting out, but after i put wynnes through it the car no longer does that. What happens is the car starts up and drives fine for around 15-20mins, then the acceleration becomes hessitant and choppy almost like as if i had a hole in the exhaust and the engine shakes. From what ive read when the cps fails the engine cuts out and wont start, but i dont have that problem

While it’s true that CPS problem can cause a quit/crank no start, it can also cause drivability problems. See: http://www.mercedesmedic.com/crank-s...sition-sensor/. CPS problems are also frequently temperature sensitive.

I have no idea what the Wynn “snake oil” did to your car. Did you do an oil system clean/flush? Fuel system treatment? Intake cleaner? Who knows...I Seafoamed the intake on a 1992 190e 2.6 once. It quit and then ran badly until I removed and cleaned the idle air control valve. Stayed away from junk in a can since then...

Key thing for me is that your problem only occurs after driving 20 minutes.
Good luck,

I used the wynns mainly because i failed my mot due to emissions and the initial problem i had with the car cutting out, to be fair after i used that the car passed its mot and the initial problem went away, but then a couple weeks later this problem started so dont know if the wynns caused this new probllem. but i will change the cps and see if that cures my problem, ill post an update when its done, thanks for your help

Best way to diagnose, bi directional scanner, otherwise guess away
