maf pin continuity?

maf pin continuity?
I tried searching around for videos and articles on testing the MAF. I found one that goes through the procedure, and at one point the maf is out of the car while probing for continuity between pins.
The video says I should have continuity between teh 12v supply (pin2) and the maf signal pin 1 (and I suppose pin 5).
I have the maf out of the car as I'm changing crankcase vent lines and supercharger oil. I have no continuity from 2 to 1 or 5. I checked my leads and multiple times to verify this.
I think it's unlikely that i'd lose continuity to both maf sensors, so I thought I'd ask whether that's a definitive test, or I have to do these checks with the maf in the car. Reinstalling the airbox is enough of a pain that I'd like to avoid it if this test is definitive.
