Never use WD-40 as a lubricant. It may work for a very short time, but in the long run it does more harm then good. First, it is liquid, so it does not stay where you spray it - instead, it flows down under gravity and also evaporates. On top of that, it dissolves whatever thick lubricant remains there. In fact, I have read in a tech service buletin (forgot where, sorry) that WD-40 eventually prompts corrosion.

Use proper lubricant instead. For things like bushings, rails etc. that are serviced rather rarely any type of marine water resistant grease will work fine.

You want to use lithium grease. This is really easy to find almost anywhere.
