people started to get off topic that i didn't read all the posts. so i don't know if anybody said anything around the lines that a c-class or any benz for that matter is a terrible car to own. i would not buy german or jap or even american.

Hey ,
Get all the cars your parents will buy you before you graduate college. Once you graduate i guess they expect you to be kind of be on your own. I say go for a C230 sedan good car, and insurance rates can be horrible dont go with gieco, they like to screw underage drivers. Liberty Mutual has been good so far.

Offtopic, jaguar makes good cars, I guess people should not comment much on cars they have not driven on a long term basis. You dont know much about a car from a test drive. When I first drove a C Class, I thought they were peices of **** but once I got of used to the car I loved it.

C240's are great if you plan to do long roadtrips, you dont need too much power and you get a great ride for hours and hours.

Good luck.

That platform wouldn't even fit under the S-Type.

Comparing the switches on the 2000 S-Type/2000 LS to the 2002+ X-Type and especially the new S-Type which has been redone twice since 2000, is an exercise in idiocy.

The X-Type does not share any switches, dash, entertainment or climate controls with any Ford.

You want repeat bad information then tell other people to "Get Over It"?
You are correct. The LS is a new platform and all. The new Mustang is based off the LS frame and all. The Taurus has nothing to do with the LS. And yes there are diferences between the FWD and RWD chasis.

Just because the same engine is used in a FWD and RWD car, doesn't mean that they both share the same chassis.
It just depends whether the engine is fitted transversely or longitudinally. (and with the correct transmission to go with it)

Any transverse or longitudinal engine can be made to drive an AWD system, just need to add the transfer case and extra drivetrain for the other two wheels.

Back to the original topic, both the C240 and X-Type are good cars, you can't really go wrong with either... but for someone who is 16, it seems odd for you to pick these two cars - they aren't exactly targeted at your age group... remember that you can only be young once, so enjoy it while you can.
But if these two cars are what makes you happy, then go for it!

We got a 04.5 3.0 x-type about 2-3 months ago... Fit and finish is great and the power is really good....The steering is a little lighter than i like but is still responsive....The car is very very well poised in the corners sadly much better than my c230, If some of you dont know the 04's have over 1,000 build quality improvements over the originals... And AWD is just fun...You can really through it around

i also agree with hitman, i didnt read throughout this whole thread, since im real tired, but i would tell the poster to now ask on jagtalk, and see what they see, im sure he'll notice that its kind of pointless, i would just go over to some lexus board, and bmw board and post this question in the OT section. before we got the E, i loved, i mean loved the X/S. at that time i was only 15, and it wasnt going to be my car, but the family....mom and dad... they wanted the benz, so we fell in love with the E....but to me, the X is a beautiful car inside and out, and no one can match that luxurious interior. i havent researched the jags as of late, but hopefully thier quality has gone up, since hitman mentioned they improved over 1000 things, as a person who doesnt own either, id say go for the X 3.0 if you can. i personally drive an AWD car, and believe me, if you like handling like i do, im sure youll love the X with high performance tires. GL with whatever you do though.

just a quick side note, if you want sportiness, why not look at the STi, EVO8, or R32? GL

15 y.o. and you like the S500? You must be living a boring life, then... S class is for old people, really... It doesn't even come with a manual, how inspiring can it be?? It is in the same class as Lincoln Continental (corporate *** hauler), just "more prestigeous" to some.

Good Lord! 16 years old? A Benz is one car I wouldn't even consider when I was 16.

Today, at 16, with Mommy and Daddy's deep pockets - - a 350Z, Boxster, 911...etc. Have some FUN, kid!

My first car was a 1972 Beetle, new off the showroom floor for $1,800. My next car was more representative of "fun"...a new 1973 Triumph TR6 for $5,200.

Kid, have some fun!!!!

To the contrary kid, go for it!

If I was given a choice at that age, I would've done the same...but take your time and really look around. There's a lot more "fun" out there than a three pointed star.

Tonewheel, not everyone likes sports cars. It doesnt matter what age you are. Im 20 and I hate sports cars, never liked them never will. Maybe because im a conservative driver. I dont care too much for speeding and putting other peoples lives in danger on public roads.

You guys like Mercedes, fine. I like it also. I bought one. But stop repeating stupid lies that you read on some internet message board.
Before you go calling others stupid, you really should make sure you have your facts straight. The Ford Contour or "Countour" as you misspelled it, most certainly exists -- it was sold in the US for several years before poor sales killed it (which is unfortunate as it was a pretty good car for the money). It was discontinued a few years back, and it is the platform used on the X-type, which is the same platform as the Mondeo in Europe.
Kind of ironic -- the "lies on the Internet message board" are your own.

The "X" and "S" types are very much Ford integrated. V-Tech engines, interior switches and components, etc.

The only real "Jag" worthy of still being called a Jag is the XJ8. (And those that don't know better are also "Jags".)

Don't judge because of age. I'm under 21, looking at buying a W202 or 203, and PAYING FOR IT MYSELF. Just because someone is young doesn't mean they're getting everything handed to them.
