W203 2001 C320 CEL P0170&P0173

Hello,

Having a hard time with this car. I replaced the spark plugs, air filters, and a coil which cleared all CEL's, and then got the car smoged & registered. The car starts up easy, runs great and strong, and idles smooth. On the way home the CEL P0170&P0173 lit up. I installed a new Bosh MAF & seals, & a fuel filter. After dirve cycling again same codes. I can't find any vacuum leaks. With both fuel banks 1&2 liting up what could be casuing this?

While looking for vacuum leaks I broke the brake booster line at the intake. I will have the new line and seal parts on Manday. In the mena time I will be oing through and cleaning vacuum lines looking for leaks. I have not found any yet (except for the above).

Also I bought an iCarSoft MB V2.0 scanner. This scanner is reading the fuel trim values. Once I get the car running again I will post the results. I am not sure if it will tell if it is in range or just give the reading. I am hoping that it will be able to see if it is lean or rich to help me find what is causing the CEL fuel trim codes.




I taped the Intake input for the brake booster and ran the engine to capture the scan data below. I ran the engine at idle and increased engine rpm a few times. The STFT increased during increased rpm and deceleration and then the STFT&LTFT both banks when back down. Any ideas on what to look for? Tests? The STFT&LTFT readings don't look like a vacuum leak to me. But the below codes are there. When I get my new Brake booster line on Monday I will drive cycle again to see if it replicates. Throwing CEL P0170&3 and in the live data P0171&4.


These codes did not show in the I/M but did in the live data. P0171&4

Possibly the last update. I replaced the brake booster line and noticed a small vacuum line attached to the rubber mount. I hooked that one up also and drive cycled the car. This time I was into the 3rd drive cycle and CEL P0400 EGR Flow A posted. I then removed the egr and tube and found the egr was working fine but the tube was nearly plugged. After cleaning and reassembling I have cleared all the I/M codes but one with no current or pending codes. It looks like I sorted it out. I'll know for sure tomorrow when drvie cycle it from a cold start.

I read the newbie sticky and posted this due to a lack of what I would call diagnostic procedure in the posts I read. Feel free to delete this or not if it can be useful for someone else. One of the biggest things I learned from this car repair is to invest in a good scan tool that shows all of the systems live senor data and learning what it means so you can diagnose before changing parts. Anyway good luck on yours!
