C240 - Remove Oil Pan

C240 4Matic Wagon 2004
I've read conflicting advice removing oil pan - does engine need to be lifted? Can pan be worked out around power steering lines, etc, without disconnecting steering column?
I have pan loosened, but looks like I may need to remove something to get it out.

I'm removing lower oil pan, that is. To replace faulty oil level sensor.

I didn’t think you needed to remove pan to replace the sensor.

Definitely need to remove for a 203.281, V6-2.6L (112.916) - https://app.box.com/s/9on1i6dj02fdm4o19buhfb9hs1x070xu

Turns out the recommended procedure (according to MB) for this model is:
  • drain oil pan
  • remove duct-work, MAF, etc.
  • lift engine slightly
  • dismount torsion bar
  • dismount engine mounts
  • raise engine
  • unbolt pan
  • crack pan seal (need heat gun)
  • remove oil level sensor & connector
  • <reverse>
Was someone stoned in Stuttgart when they designed this? No wonder my (non-Mercedes) mechanic wanted $800 for the job. I assume dealer price would crack 4 figures to remove the oil pan... Also these oil level sensors seem to commonly fail for no particular reason at all. Can you say "Ka-Ching"?
Whatever... I'm resigned to waiting for weather to improve so I can get this done in my driveway.
