Rear shock problem
Around 3500 miles on my C230K, I noticed a clunking noise from the drivers side rear quarter... I figured it was something with the suspension as it only happened when I hit bumps in the road.
At 5k miles, MB replaced the bad shock... got the car back... great, no problems !!!
Now at about 8500 miles, the noise is back... same place... how could it be that the same corner is killing the shock ???
Has anyone else noticed this problem ???
Thanks,

Ask if the problem was the shock, or the shock bushing. MB has a habit of needing to replace shock bushings. When they break, nothing keeps the shock from hitting the shock tower, which results in a noise everytime you go over a bump. Usually a broken shock does not make noise.
What is a shock bushing exactly?
PS My noise is in the front though
How frustrating.
I have the problem in the front too... took it to the dealer and they tried to fix it with a new brushing they ordered from the manufacturer. It didnt help. So tomorrow they are having me come back and giving me a rental to drive around until they can fix the problem. They've been getting alot of these same problems reported, and this particular dealer has no idea how to fix the problem.
How frustrating.
Please keep me posted on the outcome. Thanks

I don't have noise in the front, only when I hit man-hole covers or small pot holes. Other than that the ride is perfect.

I have a similar problem on my UK spec 2001 C240. The shocks "seem" to be okay as when you go over undulations / big sleeping policemen (road humps) or up and down curbs when parking etc. (ie. it seems to "bounce" okay).
The problem I have is with shallow potholes or raised/lowered manhole covers / drains etc. My car seems to really "crash" and "bang" over these. I took it back to MB and they test drove it over big pot holes and the problem was not apparent. I did try to explain to them the exact symptoms but the dealership was in the sticks and there was a shortage of manholes/drains.
Please let me know the outcome as well. Are anyone elses symptoms like mine?? It is much worse at the back end but is still a bit of a problem at the front as well.
Cheers,
Paul
They applied some silicone lubricant and when I drove away the car sounded a 100 times WORSE, like an old carriage. So, laughing my *** off, I've turned around back to the dealership and called the foreman. Apparently this lubricant needs a few days to work in, until it does it's gonna sound like this.
So I went for a drive out of the city to shorten this process
Now with summer tires I had the car hit the speed limiter a few times
Upon return the suspension noises were not much better, I'll give it till monday to wear in.
