From the Manufacturer's websites in Canada:
C320 Sedan with Auto, 0 to 62 MPH in 7.1 sec
330I Sedan with Auto , 0 to 62 mph in 7.4 sec
From the American websites
C320 Sedan with Auto, 0 to 60 MPH in 6.9 sec
330I Sedan with Auto , 0 to 60 mph in 7.0 sec
I think it's clear that if the 2 cars are automatics, the Merc will win.

the overall package the 3-series are better performance/handling car in general.
A stock WRX STI goes from 0 - 60 mph in 4.87 sec (see link below). Even a Porsche 911 would have problem catching up with that kind of performance.

C32s beat M3s in a straight line. I think u have it mixed up. The M3 may beat the C55 in the twisties.

C55 will win in striaght line over the M3
M3 has more bling factor. It has 2 doors and everyone know what an M is. AMG is not that well known in the public.

I like that fact that AMG isnt as well known as the M GmbH.. We have soooo many 3 series over here, I'm glad I dont have to sit in the same car the whole neighbourhood has..
Also at the south end of Mopac in austin there is a curvy road. The recomendad speed is 25mph on the curve. This section of Mopac is dead empty so you can do what ever speed you want on the straight section. The BMW only had a 4-7mph advantage over the 05 230 on that turn, which is not that bad.
IMO 20% better handeling does not justify the every day harsh ride, small interior, the annoying engine sound and rapoholic insurance rates for young drivers.
Dont get me wrong but I hate the way BMW promotes their cars, to tell the truth they are not exactly the ultimate driving machines. May be on a test drive they feel like one. Porsche would right on the mark with that title. Yes I did try all the cars in the BMW line. Including the new 5 . When I mean try I dont mean a short term test drive but long term drives.

what about the maintenance???
I had a BMW and the parts where so "fragil" that I was allways in the dealer and they are more expensive to!!!
My father have a CLK of 98 and if you imagine all the things he do to the car, you will be astonishhed
My bmw had sporty suspension and it got no bodyroll thats rigth, and the steering was so sensible that on the minimal problem on the wheels was seeing the car back to the dealer
The clutch was very ligth, too much ligth
3 series BMW sucks!!!

As far as es300, it may not compete with your c-coupe but it surely competes with the c-class sedan...no one ever said it competes with the e-class and the fact you are trying to compare a ES to a eclass that cost 20g more is apples to orange..i suggest you get your facts straight before making a pt.
As far as the S class, I rather take a S55 over a LS430 any day too...but not a S430 or S500, which came in last out of 5 other luxury sedans in a recent C/D test...The S is dated and mb needs to come up with an entire new car to compete in that segment.
my friend's bmw 323i w/ out the sport package drives like sh*t compared with my c320 coupe. i can still feel a lot of the bumps, rocks, etc. that my car glides over. hands down MB is more luxurious and gives a smoother ride on highways (it was built for the autobahn) etc., read any review.

actually, you should get your facts straight. the ES330 is not a good competitor for the c-class as it's a larger vehicle and both cars are marketed towards different audiences, not to mention completely different drivers buy each car. if you go to edmunds and look up the ES330, you'll see the competitors edmunds lists are the saab 9-5, volvo s60, and infiniti I35....last time i checked, NONE of those competed with the c-class. because of that, i mentioned the next best competitor in the MB lineup for the ES330, which is the e-class, and the e-class sure as hell is better than the ES330.

sorry, i don't buy overpriced toyotas with a different badge. no wonder you'd take the ls430, i see you like that style with your "infiniti"... i'd take german engineering anyday over uninspired japanese design and styling. so what if car and driver rated the s-class last? it is getting an update from MB soon anyway. the numbers are what's most important anyway, and the s-class is definitely selling damn well in comparison with the ls430.
