Why wait for 2003 Coupe?
I would personally think to wait until the second year of production as most/many quirks and flaws will be worked out. the projector-beams seem to be a nice addition, and the new engine promises to be more efficient and possibly more performance-oriented as well... with the second year may also come additional options that make the car more appealing (again HIDs, in-dash CD, relocated window switches)
If you are curious try calling the MB USA 1-800 number and drill the customer service rep for info. I did that, and the guy all but promised me that they would not change the engine for 2003, the engine is my only concern.
If you like the coupe, buy one and enjoy the panoramic roof all summer. I know I will!

The number 1 thing I'm worried about if I wait for a 2003:
1.8L engine instead of 2.3L.
This is a bit weird though, cause I remember reading mercedes only put manuals in cars up to 2.8 liters engine size.
Would make a pretty nice combo though

BTW, I keep reading that the horsepower of the 1.8 is the same, but does anyone have any info on the torque?
I'm wondering if the article on http://www.jes-mercedes.de/ is correct. That would mean there will be a C320 sportcoupe WITH a manual gearbox.

I believe you can buy the SLK 320 with a manual gearbox.
I'm really glad mercedes is going to put these manual's into their cars. It's been something they've been doing wrong IMHO....
