P0715 code and Oil Wicking on TCU wiring (replace the Trans 13 pin connector??)

hey guys.

so my 2004 c240 4matic wagon hit 125k on the clock and just started some funny trans issues. had 2 times now where it goes to limp mode into 4th gear and wont shift up/down but will go into R or Park.

1 of those times it threw a CEL and i saw the P0715 code "Input/Turbine Speed Sensor A Circuit" which I cleared with my ODB reader and car has been driving normally.

i checked on the forums here and see it could be related to a leaking trans 13 pin connector (p/n 2035400253) which can cause leaking oil to WICK up to the TCU which I read in this very helpful thread that Glyn gave very helpful advice on. https://mbworld.org/forums/c-class-w...wards-tcu.html I went and checked for oil on my TCU today by pulling the passenger front carpet up and getting access to the TCU module and wiring and sure enough the wiring had some yellow brown oil on it. It was NOT puddled up but definitely noticeable on the wiring but not on the TCU, so after numerous wipings with paper towels it looks cleared up.

I ordered a MB OEM new trans 13 pin connector (which MB calls a PILOT BUSHING for some reason - https://www.mercedespartshub.com/oem...ing-2035400253) and will get that replaced.....

Anyone else who's had this issue - did replacing the 13 pin trans connector fix your issue??? Or did you have to deal with repair/replace of the TCU module and/or the Valve Body? Am hoping the 13 pin connector replacement fixes it.

thx for any feedback fellas. still love my 2004 4matic wagon after 125k miles!!!! thx!

If ATF got into the TCM it can be disassembled and clened with isopropyl alcohol. This is a good time to reflowed the large solder joints on the PCB which tend to crack. Keep in mind that P0715 is just a generic OBD2 code telling you there's a problem with the trabsmission. You need a scan tool that can talk to the TCM directly and read/clear transmission codes. Generic OBD2 OBD2 code reader won't cut it.

tjts1 hey Buddy thanks for the feedback. I have some CRC electronics cleaner spray that I used to clean up the wiring harness and carefully cleaned the TCU connector and took it for a drive and all was fine.

I ordered the transmission 13 pin connector from FCP euro for 15 bucks and will get that installed and hopefully that solves my problem from ever coming back again. My trans fluid is mostly red and was changed a year ago so I think I’m OK there. I just hope I don’t have to deal with the trans conductor plate and having to get a new one of those.

I’ll post an update once I get that 13 pin connector thing replaced which it’s leaking Obviously if I’m getting trans fluid on the wiring harness

It could also be the conductor plate. I would get the transmission scanned for codes before doing any more work on it. Good luck.

Quick update - i replaced the 13 pin trans connector which was $14 from FCPEuro and my code P0715 was cleared/gone and the trans actually shifts amazingly smoother. No hanging in low gears and NO clunk when decelerating at low speeds and it downshifts from 3-2-1. I'm at 125k miles - would strongly suggest any w203 4matic owners with 100k+ miles check the TCM (passenger footwell located) for trans fluid wicking and clean that up and then replace your 13 pin connector and your trans should be working much better!

FCP Euro - 13 pin trans connector for w203 /MB OEM https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/mer...tor-2035400053

W203 / TCU location and how to access to clean trans fluid wicking:

722.6 / trans connector replacement - 13 pin connector

will this budget code reader help with with my code p0715 ? I just dropped in my rebuilt m113 engine also changed my throttle position sensor . Before I went on any test drives after getting the motor back in I let her idle for a few hours shutting it down every half hour 45 minutes & checking for leaks of any kind , also the fluid/oil levels making sure there was no funny business going or no codes !, the engine sounds healthy so I went for a drive . All seemed well on the first test drive. I was able to drive it for almost 20 miles around my city doing regular driving then on the way back home it went into limp mode & gave me a check engine light & I had my cheap code reader plugged in the whole test drive so it also gave me a single p0715 code simultaneously . I checked the 13pin plug & it only had a few drops oil on it I’ve seen worse on cars that have no transmission issues but hey I cleaned it off , let it dry plugged it back in . Nothing happened still same code ( can’t erase it ) . next thing I’m going to do it check the TCU but I doubt it’s got oil in it because my plug was so clean even right at the transmission, you never know till you know ! . So my problem is I need a better code reader that can specifically help with this p0715 & not go over my budget .
you can see the m113 rebuild on my YouTube channel @TheLongRanger55

My current code reader.
