"Creaking" from Passenger Side of Dash

Hello,

I've done piles of searches on the forums and haven't found an answer to this:

I'm getting a creaking noise coming from the passenger side dash area of my 2002 C230 Coupe and it's driving me crazy ! I took the car in today to have them try and figure it out, and they ripped the whole thing apart and couldn't figure it out .

My research from the forums indicate this problem on CLK's is often:
- The dash rubbing up against the windshield (test with credit card along area)
- Cracks in the dash itself (inspection around airbag area)

However I cannot find any comments regarding C230's. Are these applicable possible causes as well?

If not, anyone got any other ideas? In the mean time I'm going to reschedule for another appointment when I can get a loaner car so they can have it for as long as they want.

Any advice/opinions would be appreciated.

Rich...

Don't have any specific ideas if they found nothing initially, but the 1st thing I'd do is sit in the passenger seat and have someone drive you around to listen to the noise to pin down the location. Do to the accoustics inside the car, creaks sound like they may be coming from somewhere else than they actually are. For example, it may be from the front right suspension, it may be from the passenger seat, etc.

Question

Well I poked around more, and I found if I pressed down hard on the passenger side of the dash nearest the windshield, as well as making sure the "slot shaped" vent on the passenger side was firmly down I could reduce/eliminate the creaking for a few hours.

So it's someplace around there. Is there some easy way I can fix this without having the dealer meddle around? I was thinking maybe some WD40 lubricant, or some felt?

i had some seat squeeking. it was from the leather rubbing against the plastic trim pieces. the dealer applied felt to eliminate the sound. Is your warranty expired, if so i wouldnt see a problem identifying the problem area and applying felt as required.

I still have quite a bit of warranty left (1.75 years/60,000km). But they can't seem to figure it out, nor fix it. I have to take my car back anyhow cuz glove box no longer goes down smoothly since they took it apart the first time to try to find the creaking.

I'll try shoving some cloth in various places to see if I can figure out specifically where it's coming from.

the way i am, i would let them keep the car until they fixed it.

thats what i did with my seats when they couldnt find out why they were squeeking. i didnt care what was making the noise, i just wanted it to stop.

I'm much the same but they said they didn't have any loaner cars available for me to use.

When I told them I'd need my car for work the next day (so they'd have to put it back together), and I'd have to schedule another visit they looked at me as if I was being unreasonable. What was I supposed to do? Walk to work? At the very least they could have gotten me a rental car from some place...*sigh*.

make an appointment for a loaner car, and then drop your car off. my service A is due in 400 miles. ive already made an appointment for the end of next month to drop my car off for the service a, warranty items and to attempt to program my folding mirrors using wiedermann's tech info.

make an appt. see if maybe they can help you then.
