Chain tensioner help

Ive read alot of your post and was hoping you can help me. Got done rebuilding the top of my 2004 c230k (m271). When I lined up all the timing marks everything was perfect. Turning the crank by hand and both cams were off a tooth. Realigned and checked 3 times it was perfect. Started the car and it ran like ****. Took off valve cover and both cam were off a tooth going the other direction. So i pretty much had it right the first time 😡. I told myself to get some sleep. I always tell people not to do precise things like this frustrated. Yet i didnt follow my own advise. Took off exhaust sprocket and forgot about tensioner. Whats would be the best approach to relieve tension . I have the brass looking tensioner with 2 holes, one on side and one on tip. I foune ways to reset the black ine but not mine. Please help
