Rack and Pinion
Anyone ever had any issues with their rack and pinion? My power steering pump went out on a road trip last year. I got it replaced and drove it a few thousand miles then noticed the fluid was a little too full so I took a little out with a turkey baster. It's now at the correct level both when hot and cold (engine running) and is still clean. Around the same time, I noticed that the rack started doing this weird pulsating feeling when turning the wheel, especially with a high load (i.e. turning the wheel while stopped). There's not really any noise except occasionally when actively turning the wheel from center to the far right quickly, there's a faint high pitched sound. But the pump itself is not making any noise. So, I believe the issue lies within the rack itself (perhaps something leaking internally?). The issue has not gotten any better or any worse within the last year and roughly 20,000 miles and does not impact driving (not a safety issue), so I don't believe it's an urgent matter. It is annoying at times though.
Racks look quite expensive (way more than the pump), hence the reason I haven't jumped on taking it to the shop to have it looked at or replaced. Anyone every had any issues with theirs or replaced it? Think I'm good to keep driving it for now given no changes in the issue in such a long time?
Thanks!
