Power draw suspects
I know power draw has been hashed many times on these forums and I have read each and every single post regarding this issue yet I have not found a solution as I think my situation is more unique. So please don’t flame my post.
Im looking for a little advice to help me sort out an ongoing issue. I have a 2001 C320 with a pain in the *** power draw that is costing me a fortune to attempt to fix. So far I have done quite a bit of work trying to locate the draw.
first I replaced the battery then I checked all the relays with no results so I went to the dealer and did an hour of diagnostics and they came back with .99 Amp draw replace 1 radio 2 master window switch 3 overhead control panel. They also broke my electronic mirrors and they no longer work. Dealer refused to repair it.
I replaced all 3 and went back for more testing only to be told the draw still persists big waste of $410
I began with reading online about these power drain issues and wow there are a lot for this model car. I checked the seat controllers and it wasn’t that. I have read extensively on this issue.
so I thought I am no dummy and I can figure this out myself. I went and used a multimeter and pulled out each fuse in the car one at a time and no drop in the draw 7.26v
I decided to play around with the high voltage electrical wires going from the positive terminal to the starter and alternator.
when I disconnected the alternator I saw a big drop on the draw so I replaced the alternator and connected it back up only to find that I still have the draw but now it’s only 7v
my question is this if the draw is not coming from a fused circuit what’s left?
so far I have this list of suspects
positive terminal wiring harness draw
starter draw
transmission electrical port draw
Canbus system draw
