W203 ESL/ELV 3 pin-4 pin wiring change
Just had my ELV/ESL (electronic steering lock) fail on my W203 (steering wheel wouldn't unlock, clicking noise from ESL/ELV, Key and EIS tested fine) luckily in my carport! thought i'd share the headaches of fixing it if people still fix these old girls
.Old ELV/ESL lock P/No: A2034620630 is removed from parts system (does not exist anywhere except Merc H.O) and supercedes to the following:
A0375456132x1
A0135451426 x5
A0365455628 x1
A0135451626 x5
This requires you to re-wire the old pins into the new plug.
Mine is an early W203 with 3x pin ELV/ESL and somehow in Mercedes wisdom they decided to change in 2002 the wiring layout to 4x pin from 3-pin. After purchasing a brand new part due to not trusting 2nd hand parts that leaves those of us who own a pre-2002 with the hassle/guess-timation of how do you wire the old wiring to the new wiring?
Solution: Bridge the wires!
attached wiring diagrams of pre 2002 and post 2002 to illustrate the differences, i was fortunate to be handed instructions from an independant Merc agent on how to perform the bypass from pin 4 into pin2. Hope this helps someone else
