outside temp?

Dear all,

I went out with my wife tonight to do some shoppings. On our way home, I noticed the outside temp is quite high...then when we stopped at traffic light the outside temp. shows 79F which is 10 degree higher than those two thermostats in the intersection of grand ave. and diamond bar blvd.

Where is the out-side temp. thermostat though? I guess it's the little thing when you face the front bumper of the car, there's a little probe located at lower left hand side. Is it?

How do I know it works or not?

Missing my beloved Benz
Sometimes warm air blows from the engine around. Don't worry about it.

I don't know about MB, but on my Acura/Lexus, the manual said something like to get an accurate reading, it's suggested to drive over 30MPH.

Thanks guys.

but the weird thing is..
at night it's cool and cozy, the temp. should be low and when I left the car in my garage, it still says "79F".. This morning, I checked it again, it now becomes 82F, I don't even start the engine and the engine should be cold after standing there for whole night.

I will take a close look at it then see if I need to bring it in....

Now, counts two...
1.The noise from handling wheel is getting worse... :v
2. thermostat malfunction - pending...

Your noise could be from low power steering fluid

yes in the owners manual it says you can get false readings from the heat radiating off the pavement.

The themostat is next to the right fog light. It is a small probe that sticks through the area. The only problem I have had on me 2003 230K sedan is when I pushed it through because the mount was not tight. Boy did I get some bizarre temps then!! It was laying the front valance. At one point I got a reading of 175 degrees F. Normally, mine is within 2-3 degrees of the displays at the Banks.
