Here's the problem that I see that has prevented me from doing this. Please corret if I am wrong.

From what I understand and have heard, the beep with the Neterlands setting turned on for pre-2006 MY cars is not the same as 2006+ cars with chirp. The beeping noise is much longer on the cars with Netherlands turned on. The chirp that is available on the cars now sounds very different, much more three short and quick beeps when locking. Is there any way to make the Neterlands setting sound like the new beeps?

From what I understand, that can be controlled through Star Diagnose, but that being said, mine are 3 short beeps for lock and 1 short beep for unlock (2nd short beep to unlock all doors, since I programmed my locking mechanism w/ the key fob to unlock only the driver side first).

Hmm so did you just have them activate Netherlands or did you have to perform other adjustments to make the three short beeps?

Steve did it. Couldn't tell you. All I know is, he took his little Star Diagnose computer, hooked it up, went through some menus and added the beep. After he was done, sounded like many of the Netherlands beeps people have posted AND I still had functionality of my Panic button!

Ahh that explains it. Steve is able to make both the short beeps and the Panic button work, he explained in another post that one needs a modified Star Diagnostic computer, something one will not find at a typical MB dealership.

Yup, that's the same thing he told me...LOL...even when people were insisting that the Panic feature would be lost.

I do have to say, I was very happy when hearing the beeps because they were even less obtrusive than I thought they would be. Very subtle, so I didn't ask to shorten or lengthen the sound.

Steve's version of STARDIAG computer is not what you will find at any MBUSA Dealerships, and probably at most European MB dealers. His is a special engineering version with many many more options than the average Joe. The speed of the beeps can be programmed with his STARDIAG and maintain functionality of PANIC alarm. There are many more tricks in that machine of his, and even if MB Dealers had it available, I doubt they would know how to work it the way Steve does.

The duration of the beep and the number of beeps can be changed with a star diagnose that has engineering menus. I have one incase anyone needs it done in tx or mi.

sunman, when will you be in seattle again?

I got quite a few mod in mind and do not mind driving down to Seattle to get it. What kind of mods do you have available right now for W203?

Since sunman and steve don't really come to the NYC area, does anyone know of anyone up here that would be able to program the Netherlands with Panic and adjust the beeps as discussed above? This is something I would like to have done, but I don't know of anyone that can do it up here.

Ok finally some news and progress!

I got a flat tire last night, so today I went to the dealership to have it looked at/repaired. While I was there I spoke with a tech that I know that is really nice and asked him about the beeping. So he said let's check it out and pulled over the Star computer and plugged it in. We looked through the menus and didn't see anything at first so he tried just the Netherlands setting. On Netherlands it beeps three long beeps when locking and one long when unlocking. Then we found the thing that says USA with buzzer. There was also a spot to up the volume in 10% increments...we put it on 100% for now.

Can you post a clip of how the beep sounds? I talked to a tech at my dealership and he just looked at me like I was from a different planet...

Definately, I will do it tomorrow since it is dark now. Tell your tech to stop looking at you and instead hook up the f**** computer. You have to just tell these people what to do, because most of them are idiots. There are exceptions, like the guy I was talking to today.

Ok here we go!

Here is a link to Youtube with my newly set beep. This is the "USA with buzzer" option which is different than the Netherlands setting. Panic button still works as well.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R29JgE6cviY

This is a link to a video Moze made a while back showing his car set to the Netherlands setting. Panic button does not work with this setting and the beeps are longer.

Enjoy!

(btw, does anyone know if its possible to embed a youtube video right into your MBWorld post?)

I like it, much less annoying than some cars out there. I might have the volume turned down a tad though.

Well, I have service B about 5000 miles which wont be too long for me, I'll have to decide by then, I'll keep listening to it...I will admit though after listening again, the beep sounds more high tech than the chirp noise of other cars, so maybe I like it haha...I know a chick in my class who works at cashier and parts desk at my nearest dealership, Im gonna ask her who the "coolest" SA is, cuz i remember asking one guy he also looked at me weird and brushed me off...

my car is out of warranty, so I don't really have an SA that I go to...

I love my service advisor but even she said it wasn't possible. At my dealership the waiting area has a large window so you can watch them work on the cars. I decided to go in and talk to one of the techs that I met one time. I asked him about it and he said that he wasn't sure but that he would try. So he rolled over the computer (since another tech was working on my flat tire) and plugged it in and played around until he found it.

My suggestion would be to bypass the service advisor completely and just talk to one of the techs. Just one more thing, it is possible that the "USA with buzzer" option is not available on your car since it is pre 2005 facelift but you can definately have the Netherlands setting activated. Just make the tech play around until they figure it out.

Hey LuxuryC240, My service B is due in about 2 weeks, and I'm sure yours will change from "Service B due in 5,000 miles" to "Service B due in 30 days" really soon. At least mine did. I had 4,800 miles left till it was due, and then it changed to ..due in 30 days. Question for you...which M-B dealership are you taking your car to up in Boston? Do you have an SA yet? Know of any cool techs at your M-B that wouldn't mind hooking up the Star Diagnose and look around?

I had my car in for service down here at Inskip in RI. They were nice, but didn't fix my problem (insulation rubbing on the driveshaft, and making a subtle whirring sound). So I'm gonna have to bring it back to them again. Not sure if I'll have them do Service B or not. At $399, I don't think it's worth it.

Anyways, I'm not sure if any techs here would want to hook up their Star Diagnose and check things out for me, and make some setting changes.

As a side note, I had an 07 C350 4-Matic as a loaner for the weekend. It had the "USA with buzzer" beeping sound which is the first youtube video. I d-e-f-i-n-i-t-e-l-y prefer the Netherlands settings sound over this USA buzzer beeping IMHO.

Sunil...I believe you said you were coming up to NY sometime in July. Any specifics date in mind yet? Would you come up to Boston at all?

Thanks,
