Has anyone tried to get another door handle, IR sensor and other necessary parts put on the passenger side of the car? Is it even possible? I often find myself on the passenger side wanting to open everything up...especially during summer.

Ask your service advisor to check your IR sensor cuz you're supposed to have one there too... I had a problem with mine not working on the driver side and the IR sensor was just loose, 10 min. fix

Mine's 2001 also, but a Sedan, we didn't ahve the coupe here in North America until 2002, I'm sure you can order the part from your SA if you use a 2002 Ccoupe VIN from someone here, don't see why it wouldn't work.

Exclamation W203 IR passenger side sensor

The car is also Blue as my C32, I got my wife, mother in law to mistake the loaner for the C32! (women! )...

Everytime I get a loaner (C240); its amazing the lack in power on those little C240 engines...

A loaner, is a loaner, I am NOT complaining , it could be a LOT worse...

so without the IR sensor on the passenger side, the passenger is unable to unlock the door?

The IR sensor isn't used to open the door...it is used to open the windows and pano.

Mr. CitronC230K_03:

As Mr. JeT indicated, IR sensors are to control the windows/sunroof/pano roof and so forth... locking and un-locking the doors are unaffected by the presence of the IR sensors (that part works fine on the loaner... locking and unlocking that is!)

All NA spec cars get the pass side IR sensor...the rest of the world has to live without it...retrofitting one shouldn't be a problem though (as it is standard on NA spec cars).

My '04.5 C230 doesn't have a IR sensor on the passenger door, But it would be useful to have one.

...which means that MBUSA finally went along with the rest of the world and decided to get rid of the pass side IR sensor as well then...most probably as of 2004.5

greetingz,
Steve,

Hate to disagree with you but my USA Spec 2004 C240 does NOT have a passenger side IR door handle sensor...

Does this mean mine is a fluke or is this a feature that is/was removed after XX year of production?

yeah well, the 04's have cooler looking rain sensors and aero wipers (ive already installed the wipers though), the 05's have the new center console and dash cluster, but the 05's dont have Amathyst or Citron. yeah whats up with that. Anaheim Drew and I will gloat over that one, with our IR sensors. all we have are stinking IR sensors.

something is better than nothing.

greetingz,
Dealer didn't have any c-class advert books left so I called the 1800# and had one sent to me. Extra little sticky on the back of the book said that some time in the model year after the book was published, later version c-class was shipped without sensor in right hand door. Would make me wonder if the wiring harness was changed and adding a sensor aftermarket might be a problem.
