c240 brake and other mods question

hey guys, new to this forum as a member, but have thumbed around the threads for a little while now. i have a question, from which experience from reading some threads im gonna get torched, BUT, i gotta ask, lol.

we are building a 2002 c240 spd into a race car for the west coast ustcc championship, and probly some others. i have been lurking around trying to figure out mods, primarily brakes, flywheel, and ecu tuning, and maybe a tighter shifter. i have read ALOT on brake mods, but now so many W this and W that numbers have been thrown around, i am TOTALLY confused! LOL.

i read one thread somewhere that 2006 slk55 amg 6/4 calipers, 340mm/360mm rotor will bolt right on. (003-420-29/30-83) then i read somewhere about the c32 4/? (dont know what rear) will bolt right on.

if anyone could help a fella out, that would be great! cause im totally confused now lol, and i REALLY sorry to be "that" guy lol

Weird choice for a raceway/speedway car.

Also, on the vehicle spec sheet on the ustcc website , https://www.ustcc.com/rules-forms ( https://8bca88a3-6533-4c8a-8317-39f4...d02dd0a002.pdf ), I don't see any MB cars listed as valid models.

I grew up on qtr mile tracks.
So, I often lump tracks into either a "qtr mile" or "circle track".

Unfortunately, I can't help with your question.
Still, good luck with the mods, and the racing!

haha! thanks! it generally goes by a ten year rule. but since there are soooo many e46 chassis running around, the rule of thumb is 2000 and newer.

Cool!!

I looked over the rules very quickly.
Although I don't know for sure what brakes/wheels/tires fit a C240, be aware that the bigger brakes often require bigger rims. And, bigger rims along with the needed tires, don't always fit under the stock fenders. Extremely few people flare MB fenders. But, iirc, the rules allow it.
So, just be aware that you'll be looking at some cutting, flaring, spacers(also allowed), and longer studs (also allowed). And, it's very unlikely that people will have experiences in those areas.

Also, I not sure about sub-frame connectors, and STBs, or CC plates for a C240.
These cars are older. They weren't widely supported in the aftermarket when new.
What may have been available before, often is no longer available. :-P

It will be an interesting project.
I know that I would love to see some track pictures, and I'm sure that others would also. Doesn't matter if it's this year or next.

IIrc, someone who often races with his club, took his C230 to the track (?Talladega?) about 1-2 years ago, and it was at least "respectable". Of course, the very experienced driver behind the wheel helped a lot. :-)

Good Luck!

yea it seems to handle pretty decent. brakes are lacking, and clutch feels terrible (think it damaged) but seems to run well, power is fairly on par to the bmw i drove last year.

i found some parts here and there for the thing. camber plates, few body mods here and there that should land within the rules. biggest thing is while looking up the brakes, i totally confused myself with all the info out there, but cant figure out which bit of information works on the w203 chassis lol.

C32 front and rear brakes bolt right on. C32 wheels fit for sure with this setup. I imagine the C7 (7 spoke pre-facelift) wheels would as well but don't know for sure. What I do know though is that 16" wheels definitely don't fit.

The W209 CLK and W203 do share quite a few suspension components. Any W209 wheel will fit, as well as anything off one of the SLKs (I forget if it's R170 or R171). I imagine W209 brakes would too but also not 100% sure.

Wonder if anyone has tried installing C55 brakes onto a non C55 suspension. The C55 ran 18" wheels stock though, so 17" may not fit. The C55 wheels definitely fit any W203, and actually look quite good on the lesser models.
