Testing lock actuating motor

How can I test the lock actuating motor that locks the fuel filler flap, I have removed it from the car. And how can I test with a multimeter if the connection to the motor is supplying the current needed for the motor to work. Is there a fuse that I should look at first? That is the only part of the central locking system that is not working on my car, all the rest of the locking mechanisms work fine.
thanks
jas
