REMOVING speed limiter

heres a question...
anybody here ever think about removing the speed limiter on the c230 coupe? i have read about this type of thing in the past on modded 200mph mb's where they would obviously have to remove it. again, just a question. i have no desire to try this myself, it is just curiosity

I think if you chip the car it removes the speed limiter. I heard that the drag limited speed limit on the coupe is around 150. You would need a lot more than 192 horse power to get to 200!

I belive the Euro C230K tops out at 149 mph. Don't know if it is limited to that speed, but anyway 149 mph is pretty fast...

The 149mph top speed is gear limited while the 130mph is limited by the ECU chip. It can be removed by someone that programs the chips but it costs big bucks. I don't think upsolute does limiter removal but the high-end guys do.

I have read that you can order MB cars without the speed limiter...not sure if it is available here in the US....I have heard that it is an European option. So, if it is available from the factory, then there should be a way for someone who knows what they are doing to remove the limiter. I wanted to look into this after I heard about it. An easy way to get more top speed, but does not increase HP.

shtatc,
It is do-able if you know what part of the engine management software contains the limit information and know how to modify it to not cut top speed. This assumes you have the prom burner and the time. I think 'superchip', or something like that, will delimit your car for a mere $1400! They also say it takes two weeks to do, as opposed to 2 days for a normal hp upgrade.

mdp c230k -
I have seen that evosport has a ECU upgrade option where they can remove the rev limiter and increase top speed. I have asked here on this forum if anyone has done this, but got no reply. So, I dont know the results of the ECU reprogramming. I am going to inquire at the dealership - see what they say. They will probably give you the typical company line - sorry no way to do it.

The dealer will not even know what you are talking about when it comes to reprogramming the ECU. At the very least they will frown on it. Do a web search on 'ECU tuning' and you'll find a few places that can do it for you.

I did a chip upgrade on my old Infiniti Q45, and among other things it removed the 150 mph limiter.

I never utilized that feature.

I have considered it on my C32, since supposedly it will go 175 without the limiter, and 190 with a change in axle ratios.

But really, in the United States, there will realistically never be a time or place where I will safely be able to do that. I'd just be getting it so I could say "I could, if I wanted to".

I say save the money, or use to get quicker acceleration!
