You can check all this if you follow the directions on this website:
http://www.mercedesmedic.com/check-m...y-vin-m272273/

According to your VIN #, this is your engine #: 272920 30 154511

Mercedes-Benz with the improved parts have engine serial numbers that are higher than:
  • M272 Engine Serial No. 2729..30 468993
As your engine serial number is lower, it is quite possible that your engine is affected.

My personal opinion, .......................... I would not buy the car for 5K. If anything goes wrong, the repair costs will outweigh the value of the car by far.

It is a gamble, as it is of course not a FOR SURE thing that your car will experience these issues, but the risk is definitely present.

Again, only my opinion, there of course may be others.

There's a 2008 e300 4matic 120,000km for 7k for sale close by I might go look at that car. Its one owner since new. Ill need to research the common issues on that model year. Thanks for your help!

Smart decision, and you are welcome.

I have both, a 2004 W203 and a 2007 W211. The W211 E Class suits me personally better, as it is a bit bigger and therfore roomier.

Where are you located?

Good luck and keep us poated.

2006 C350
Long story short. I bought my 2006 C350 new back in 06 but my ex wife kept it in our divorce back in 2010. So, I haven't seen the car for almost a decade. It has sentimental value to me plus I ordered it with the 6 speed manual, so its pretty rare. Fast forward to a month ago and she called and asked if I wanted the car back because she says it stopped running. I asked her what happened and she says check engine light came on. she took it to a shop and they told her it had the "balance shaft failure" and gave her a printout with the following codes: P0014 incorrect position of the exhaust camshaft right bank, P0024 incorrect position of the exhaust camshaft left bank and P0300 Misfiring. they quoted her about $4800 for the job. Obviously she wasn't interested in spending that much on a 14 year old car with 180,000 miles. So i said what the heck, i'll take it and planned to just throw in a used engine instead of the balance shaft replacement. I get the car towed home, charge the battery and it starts right up and runs as smooth as i remember when it was new. No check engine light. It was due for emissions test and passed emissions test and the tech said there were no stored trouble codes. I've driven it to work every day for 2 weeks now and nothing, nada no problems whatsoever. So... what the heck? was the ex wife possibly getting scammed by the shop? or is the balance shaft gear truly worn down just pops up every once in a while until ultimate engine failure? And yes, my VIN falls within the affected range.

Any input is much appreciated.

Any news here, did you get it?

Been looking on the W211 Forum, but have not seen anything.

geeze, thanks for your feedback. I'm just following the moderators rules by not starting new threads on topics that have been beat to death. The moderators sticky says to just add to an existing thread if you have a similar problem. Ok then, what should have I done then?

Tell the Ex to keep it, as she apparently robbed it from you in the first place.

Thank you for your vast knowledge on the W203. Your knowledge on the subject has been read and disregarded. I'm so impressed with the helpfulness of the members of mbworld forum💩💩.

How about you ask specific questions in regards to what you REALLY want to know?
My advice would be to no longer invest any money in the car, sentimental value or not. (Not sure how anything can have sentimental value that the Ex took over 10 years ago?)
So again, WHAT EXACTLY are you asking? After reading your post again, I am seriously not sure what you are after.

The car is obviously affected by the balance shaft issue.

Hence, the "valuable advice" you received.

And no, this thread was about a new owner needing help about a vehicle, which turned out to be affected by the balance shaft issue. As you read, the OP did not buy it.

Maybe you want to start a new thread and ask for SPECIFIC advice!

hello what about this vin number.
WDBRF87H36F752635 it said in my documents that the axles were replaced and the trans overhaul by dealer in 2007 at 15,000 miles does it fall under the possible defected balance shaft or I shouldn’t worry.
Now has 106,000 miles thanks for replying.

Asking the question again, ........................... Did you look up the info on the website?

Here is what I found for your vehicle:

Sales designation: C 350 4MATIC
Order number: 0 6 706 30236
Delivery date: 07 09 2005
Market: NA,North America
Production order: N

Paint code 1:
040U BLACK
Equipment:
115A IMITATION LEATHER - BEIGE
Engine no.:
272970 30 174139

Mercedes-Benz with the improved parts have engine serial numbers that are higher than:
  • M272 Engine Serial No. 2729..30 468993
Based on this, your vehicle is affected!

Transmission Overhaul and Axle replacement has nothing to do with the balance shaft issue, so this would not have corrected anything.
