First time was plain old scrubbing, not that good. Didn't wet it nor soak in water.
Second time was soaking it with water and Simple Green (diesels don't have much electrical gizmos that can go wrong). Rinsed with water. Good looking.
Third time was another soaking of Simple Green but focused on hard to reach places. Then rinsed with water.

I think that's the bane of having new cars, you just can't tinker with them like you do oldschool ones like mine. Ask your dealers how they clean their showcar engines that way you could get an idea. I'm sure you guys don't have that distributor anymore, and most parts are shielded well. All exposed air-intake parts (ducts, vents, etc) and wires should be properly shielded before washing. And if you have a K&N style air filter be sure to wrap it up well. You could take off the plastic cover on top of the engine, because it will trap dirt.
Perhaps you could arrange for an engine-cleaning meet!??!?

yeah there is a color they made the 170 SLK's which looked similar to mine, but when you put the two cars next to each other the differance is night and day.
there was an SLK at MBSD about a year ago that color you are referring to and i parked next to it and it didnt look the same at all.
then again, the SLK owner may have SPC ordered the car with Citron. that is possible. i have seen an SL55 is Orion Blue once.

i know there's one citron green SLK w/ Lorinser bodykit in Diamond Bar. Saw him from time to time and gradually he mod the car more. lol
