POS cup holder
It finally happened....
The over-engineered cup holder in my coupe broke yesterday. I was opening the cover to get out some change, and noticed the cup holder was tensioned against the underside of it. So, as I gently pressed down on the exposed part, I hear this "click-crack-snap" (and no-it wasn't rice crispies...they go snap crackle pop).
When it finally opened, the cup holder rose up, then without flipping open, it dumped the now broken lower plastic flap, it's little flip spring and the rolled lifting spring mechanism into the rubber piece in the bottom. ARGH!
I was able to remove the whole mess and put it back together...sort of. One of the ears on the plastic flap was broken off in the chaos described above, so that part is toast. The good news out of all this is there seems to be less tension on the lifting spring.......it wont catapult things at the passenger anymore....but it doesn't open inside the closed compartment either.
I'll mention it to the dealer at Service B in a few months....but damn it all anyway.

i replaced mine in my clk a bunch of times. after the last one broke i decided to just pull the whole thing out and not bother with it anymore. the spot where it used to be will fit a wider range of bottle/can/cup sizes and if my passenger has a drink and the spot is in use, screw it they can hold their own drink or stick it in that cargo net on the passener side.
