Question C Class - European Side Mirrors

Hi everyone,

I have been searching for european mirrors for the side mirrors - they are a split angled mirror so that you can see a car that is on your side - the blind spot -

Audi has them for the TT and they work wonders. Thought they would work well for the C230K

I noticed that someone in their threads where people describe their car - has European Mirrors in their description.

Can anyone help with this issue? And if yes, where is the best place to purchase these mirrors and are they compatible (heatable, etc)

Thanks

If you go back thru the group, I think I posted the part numbers some time back, which means you can then order them from your US dealer .

mirror angle

I've always angled my mirrors so that I can see a car if its in my blind spot ... to actually look behind me I use my main rearview mirror. This has worked well for me, and I've been doing it ever since I almost got into an accident when a car slammed on the brakes in front of me while I was checking my blindspot over my shoulder (as I was taught in driving school.) Now I never turn my head ... its much safer to just reangle those side mirrors.

Price on Mirrors

Richard,

Thanks for your answer. I found the mirrors, I have the auto dimming driver mirror which is standard in US, and the price at europarts express was $332; 266 for the driver's mirror and $66 for the other.

Do they work that well, ie, do they help immensely?

Easy to assemble?

Sound reasonable?

Thanks

Hi

I think they are vital ! They improve your view greatly and save taking your eyes of the road for too long as they probably eliminate the blind spot completely.

Fitting is a 5 minute job. Push bottom of mirror glass in, so top is out and you can see the clip. Looking at the new mirror glass shows you how to release the clip.
Installing new one, clip mirror in at bottom, align top and tweak the clip with a small screwdriver which makes it clip in place.

You need to get dimming mirror if you have a dimming mirror and non-dimming if you dont, the wiring on the mirror glass is different

I think it would be slightly cheaper (especially the dimming one) to order the glass direct from a european dealer (where germany is cheaper than UK) even if you can't persuade them not to charge you our local VAT taxes

I thought you got a blind spot because of the blind spot in your eye (where optic nerve connects to retina)- so reangling a flat mirror cant possibly eliminate it, only move it to somewhere not important. The european mirrors work well because they are effectively 2 mirrors at different angles

I think that, traditionally, the "blind spots" talked about here are those areas at the two rear quarters of the car that can not be seen easily in your mirrors.

Although you never know, from across the pond!

Richard: Do you now if it's possible to retrofit auto-dimming mirror on a car thats not equipped with this from factory? Or is it like with the COMAND thing, in that nothing is pre wired?

DtS, its a wiring thing. The dimming mirror has a different wiring harness and they are not interchangable.

Thanks for replying mdp c230k. Well, I could almost guess this was the case... However I think that the inner rear view mirror is interchangable with the auto-dimming dito. Correct?

DtS, it too is different. If you have an unsilvered spot on the upper right side of the mirror it is a sensor type. Take a look, you might be lucky.
