Do seat control modules need to be coded?

As above, I'm wondering how simple an eBay replacement would be.

There are lots of different versions showing on RealOEM and I am not sure what the differences are.

Would I be safe getting the same part number? They have some design flaws which doesn't really support the case for like-for-like replacement.

Good luck. I have been waiting for an answer to my same question.

My understanding was that they work across the CAN bus.

So either the functionality depends on the part number (different cars work in different ways) or it is determined by coding.

No, they are plug and play. Just make sure the PN matches.

I just removed it and decided to go for a new FEBI unit rather than a used part. Here in the UK that is £150 vs around half that for used. It was a pain to get out and honestly, I wasn't sure I wanted to fit another and risk it failing again.

Which seat module did you replace? Left, right? No programming required?

I ordered left, but the left and right part is the same. I don’t believe coding is required, they are not that complex. I think all it really does is take CAN bus signals and turn them into power for the motors. I think the heated seat passes through the box as well which probably isn’t CAN.

Well I bought two used ones with the part number that was shown on the EPC as superseding the one I removed. Neither worked. Guess I bought expensive black plastic bricks.

For the benefit of others, the modules do not need to be coded. I bought a replacement module from FEBI - 37720, fitted and all worked perfectly straight away.
