2005 CLK320 front grill on a 2005 C230 SS ?

I love the look of the front grill on the 2005 CLK320. Can I take a 2005 C230 Sport Sedan and after I've changed the hood emblem to a flat one, then install the grill from a CLK320 to it so it looks like a CLK320 front ? I was considering buying a CLK320 just because I liked the front so much compared to the C230 !

I've seen advertisments of a grill for the C230 but it has an empty hole in the middle, not the 3 prong star MB emblem. Here's a picture of that other grill with the hole.

No flame but you might want to use the search function. This mod has been discussed numerous times. There are cheap ones and expensive ones to be had. Hint: expression.

I did a search for " grill" and got 20 pages but didn't see anything on a 2005 and since the body changed, I don't want to spend the money then have it not fit. I'll search under " expression " now. Thanks,
Carlos

AFAIK only the front portin of the C55 changed. That is due to the V8. All others should be the same with most changes coming in the interior and the attached bodykit. Get ahold of *oggle*. I believe that he did what you're looking at. HTH

If you want to get a flat hood emblem, get a good one.

I got one from ebay for 20 bucks, which I don't think it's an OEM part. The quality sucks and the emblem can not even fit into the adaptor. What a joke! The greatest part is it was sold as is. This is a lesson for me for shopping on ebay! "If it looks too good to be true, it's too good to be true!"

By the way, due to the curve of the hood, the flat emblem won't fit perfectly on the hood, unless you put some double-sided foam tape on the back.

I am thinking to get a good one from other reliable sources such as those suggested by other forum members. Before you get it, do a search on the forum and get as much information as you can

Good luck

Jason

Jason if you have a good adaptor, I have an OEM flat hood badge new unused. You can have it for $10.. I bought it without the adaptor which was out of stock the day of our OC meet. But a good friend brought me a complete set from San Diego so I now have a spare new badge.....

OK wait, then I need an adapter in addition to the hood badge.....mmmmm. I love this forum !! I learn something new every couple of hours. I got a place for a OEM badge for $10 plus shipping but it doesn't include the adapter. If anyone knows where to get the adapter alone, let me know.

Ok, so I guess it all comes down to there are really only 2 real good grills out there :

1- Oggle & Lorinser's : MHDezent "CL type" listed at $795.00

2- The one from formymercedes.com. Even though they have 2 different ones, the "Prestige" for $229.00 is the one I just saw this morning on a neighbor's car and it looks great ! Since I haven't seen the MHDezent, I wouldn't dare to compare and I suppose it should be better but at a 247% higher price difference, I'm going to buy the "Prestige" that looks very nice.

Thanks to all that helped.

MHDezent one is more like the grille on the ML. It has real 3D star instead of a flat 3D-look like the formymercedes.com

SORRY, I goofed !!!

I just spoke with my neighbor and he told me he bought it at Performanceproducts.com and that it's called the Sport Grille (C-Class) at $269.00 !!! On the website they say it uses a OEM Star from MB. It might be the same one as formymercedes.com sells but I don't know yet. I'm going to ask him to look for his reciept before I order mine and in the meantime I'll email Porformance to find out the name of theirs to see if it's the same as the formymercedes one.

I'm sorry for the confusion. His wife went out in the car so I couldn't get a picture of it, but I saw it this morning and it looks great.

IMO if your going buy the CL Grille just save and buy the Expression. Its pricey but looks the best. The cheaper styles are extremely tacky and make and dont do the car justice. If your not going to spend that much than just do the flat badge which looks just as nice.

Well the "Taiwanese" grille actually looks ok, but the smaller eBay ones just look whacked. The stock grille looks nicer.

I keep hearing this "flat badge " thing about the other grills but the one I saw has an OEM MB badge so I still don't get the "flat badge" thing

Have you ACTUALLY SEEN one of the other ones ? I'm asking because I haven't seen the Expression but my neighbor has the Performanceproducts.com grill called the Sport Grille (C-Class) at $269.00 and it looks great , and it comes with an OEM MB badge, not a flat badge.

BTW, like I've said before, I think my neighbor's grill looks great compared to the stock grill but I haven't seen the expression in person to be able to compare them.

Flat badge and Grill are also 2 different things.... Flat badge replaces the stand up star on your hood...Car at start of thread has a flat badge

Ok, now you throw in the word "Taiwanese" in the ring also ! Are the grills from formymerecedes.com (Prestige) and the one from performanceproducts.com (Sport Grille) the same one, Taiwanese ?

One's at $229 and the other at $269 (this last one advertises an OEM badge though). Are they both the same one ?

HELP !!!

OK I understand the flat badge replacing the sticking up star on the hood, but I also have read somewhere that the badge on some grills are not 3D and they're flat and that's why I thought he was refering to the badge on the grill not the hood badge, my mistake. Thanks.

No you are correct that some grills are not 3d but flat. But most who have changed the grill also have the flat hood badge. I could be wrong
