AC control head?
Hello everyone!
I have a 2004 c230 Kompressor sport sedan.
I am experiencing an issue and want to know if anyone else has seen this. My ac works fine, but some time ago the vent control seemed to stop working. If I set the directional knob to just blow forward, it will also blow on my feet and the windshield as well. I took it to my mechanic and was told that I needed to replace the ac control head. Has anyone else experienced this?? If so, what resolution, if any, did you find? Thanks, Michael1

If you direct the air to your face and other dampers (defrost, feet) completely close correctly, you have a (face) stepper motor failure. This failure is very common, and affects pretty much every W203 on the road. It is a very painful repair. Usually the feet dampers go first for some reason, but any of them can die anytime.
If the other dampers are all stuck their current positions (ie they cannot be opened or closed when you turn the direction dial), then your HVAC control panel has a problem and needs to be replaced. This failure is quite rare, but I guess it's possible. Units are readily available online (eBay) or a local wrecker, and possibly still at the dealer. This repair is much easier. The big one is to match the PN. There are a few versions of this control panel (guessing the internal firmware is what sets things apart between the PNs), and some say that only certain ones will work on certain cars. In other words, it's hit and miss. But you can always just roll the dice.
Good luck.
