Damn it!! chip on the hood
i have just waxed my car tonight and i found two chips on the hood of my car already. i only have the car for three weeks.
DAMN IT!!
anyway i guess thats bound to happen!! so i'm dealing with it.
but after i waxed it the wax had fill the chipped part. any idea how can i get the wax out of the chipped part?
although both chips are only about 2/3 mm but with wax in them they are very visible since my car is obsidian black.

This is a concern of mine.. in the first couple of weeks of ownership I received 4 rock chips to the metal on the hood of my car. Same highway I drove my Toyota on for years without incident. Is it true that the paint is water based?

I think that MB has modeled their paint after dissappearing ink. The front of my car is riddled with paint chips. Obviously, that has a lot to do with my driving, but the paint quality sure has gone down these past few years. My father has a 92 SL500, and the paint is immaculate.

Funny this thread came up... About an hour after I posted my previous message, I had an unfortunate incident happen to my car on the 57N today. I was about 150 ft behind a gravel truck, when I heard a few very loud clanking sounds. At first, I didn't have an idea to what it was, but after looking up and seeing several rocks about 1" in diameter bounce 8' off the ground and onto my car, it all made sense. My car now has several large chips, dents, and a cracked windsheild. Lucky for me, I got his license plate # (from the front of his car after I passed him) and called the CHP. My deductible is only $250, so I'm not that bad off.

Sorry to hear about that - hope I didn't jinx you. If you contact the gravel truck company they should pay for all of the repairs - they're supposed to keep insurance for such incidents.

ouch!! I can imagine it had to have been a bit traumatic. I'd be feeling sick in the same situation. Good thing you have a low deductable just in case the company come through! Curious .. did you happen to have a stone guard or clear nose mask on the front? If so, any luck in protecting that portion of the car?

I also have about 3 - 4 rock chips on the hood of my car. The roads are not yet cleaned in calgary so there is lot of gravel from winter. Soon as the city starts to clean the streets and the roads i will touch up the chips with some touch up paint from the dealer.

Stoneguard definitely helps, but it too is not invincible. I have seen several cars where the stoneguard has been torn where rocks have hit it. Of course, it is much better to have your defense get damaged than your car, but keep this in mind. I will be looking into stoneguarding the whole front of my car, but I doubt I will follow through with it.

The best thing you can do is try not to be behind any large trucks. Multi-wheelers have more wheels available to kick up gravel and other debris in your direction. Stay away from them or at least as far behind as you can.

HOLY WOW...this must've been one of my very first thread up in this joint...
btw, this just showed how bad the MB paint was back then. Had the 204 for 2 1/2 months and so far no rock chips after 2450 miles.

Noticed the same. Even though my car does not even have perfect paint anymore but everytime I go to wash it, I see a new paint chip on the front end.
I used to drive Honda Civic hatchbacks and the magnitude of paint chips on the front end were no where close to what I get now in the Mercedes. And I do not even drive the Mercedes as much.
Granted that I am in NYC but still.

So... I've been meaning to take care of some small chips and scratches on my front bumper and a couple on the hood. Reading the thread, it seems people like the LANGKA products. Anybody have any other suggestions? Comments... thoughts....
