C240 4Matic
Newbie Looking At C240 4matic

Hello and good day. I’ve never owned a Mercedes and really don’t know a whole lot about them so I’m hoping to get a bit of advise. I’m looking at a 2005 C240 4matic with 169000 miles to possibly purchase. It’s a pretty inexpensive car and pretty clean so that’s why I’m looking at it. I have a new car on order and I’m waiting for it to come in so I thought I might pick this up for a driver till the new car comes in and keep it around for the family to drive. So long story short is there anything I should be looking for they may have had issues with? Where it’s older, has that type of mileage on it, and I know zero about them I figured I would join and ask the experts who have owned them. Any and all advice is appreciated.

I wouldnt buy it even if the price was good its getting close to that 200k mile mark and yes benz are known to last but usually if your keeping it past that many miles its cause your invested and dont plan on selling it. If your really craving a c240 or 30 theres alot under 100k miles for 3-4k maybe less , atleast here in cali. I own a 2002 c240 and its great as a daily no doubt very reliable if taken care of of course. IMO i would save some more money and get something better and bigger maybe a e350. as much as i love my 240 the power is just not there. But that said if you dont mind the slow power go for it, just be sure it has been taken care of properly and preferabbly service records.

Have you shopped for a used car lately? I would love to see one of these sub 100k mile c240 4matics for $3-4k.

There is nothing wrong with the C240 at 169k miles. It will need the usual maintainance like engine mounts, trans oil change, front end bushings, front axles etc. If you can handle that plus the catastrophic slowness (0-60 in more than 10 sec) of the C240 4matic, go for it. Avoid C230, C280, C350 at all cost. Those are garbage engines. Stick to C240 or C320.

yes I’m not saying it’s bad but for what it is and the money that will go
into it sI’m sure there’s better options . And I have seen some last
time I saw a 2006 or 7 c230 under90k miles very clean in and out under $4500. Not a 4matic ik but still not bad

06-07 c230s are completely worthless because of the catastrophic balance shaft failure. Those cars are scrap metal.

I would say go for it, I bought one (the second my family has had) both have gone over 200k problem free, I still have mine and it's at about 220k miles, problems to look out for would be spark plugs, wires, Guage cluster screen, make SURE you use the right oil and premium gas or you will absolutely annihilate the motor and just do regular maintenance and it should be perfectly fine. Not a quick car by any means but it at least sounds nice and it will do over 140 mph without too much drama. It's also a really good winter car if it has 4matic, never had to shovel the driveway or worry about losing control
